I recently had a terrible incident happen while showing a house. My clients 15 year old ...deaf....dog escaped while a showing occurred. A screen door was ajar and the dog walked out to the yard. I realized that Sparky was not around, so I immediately ran outside to the yard and there was Sparky. Well, this cute pooch wanted to take a run! We ran down a very busy street and finally was captured by a police officer who was kind to stop when he saw a crazy lady running barefoot down the sidewalk ...crying and yelling to the deaf dog. I recently lost my Oliver in my arms to a heart attack. This pooch almost gave me one. Sparky is fine..I went back later that day and of course I'm still shaking with tired muscles...there is Sparky sleeping and dreaming of her fun out in the sun.
Please keep your pets in a crate, remove them from the property, or have a pet sitter for the showings.
I think is some cases, people need to kennel the dogs during the listing period. I've come across Rottweiler's, Doberman, pigs, and hoards of cats! It's ridiculous! First of all I love pets. What if your client is bitten? I've seen it happen big time, where the listing agent was showing us and a Rottweiler's went absolutely crazy on him! I almost had a heart attack!
