When A Tree Falls In The Forest.....

By
Real Estate Agent with Century 21 Olde Tyme

There is the saying I'm sure you have all heard.  If a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it does it still make a noise?  Some might say yes of course.  But if no one hears it how in the world do you know.  Others would say that with the law of physics it has to make a noise.  But if you're not there how do you know?

I think it is the same thing as blogging.  If you blog and no one reads it, or they read it and don't comment, how do you know if it was because you didn't write a good blog or they didn't like what they read.  I think we fall into the habit of reading our "favorite" individuals blogs.  I see those that continue to write and either get no comments or less than 10.  They are good posts and I have never understood why no one comments on them.  These blogs have pearls in them, some have humor, others educate.  But, alas no one will ever know if they don't make the effort to read at least several of the ones that have few comments.  Every day I try to look for those posts.  I try to find something about them that enlightens my learning or day.  We have some good unknowns out there let's give them a chance to become great!

I am as of this moment subscribing to your BLOG as I read what you write so often anyway, and now I will be reminded when there's a new post. I agree with you that comments give "the juice" to our work...Thanks for sharing your sentiments.

Roberta, this is a fabulous post!  Sometimes I like to just see who's online by clicking the numbers at the top right.  If I see someone I don't know, I try to stop by their blog and say hi.  I should try to do that more often, especially with the new people.

Hi Sarah

I was just reading your post "Converting The Skeptics."  Such good words of advise. I know you're there late at night I see you.  Us insomniacs have to stick together! Thanks for the comments. :)

Good post. Many times people just don't want to comment. Reading all these blogs gets time consuming. After a while I think people narrow down their interests and only read topics that really interest them.

In my humble belief all of us want validation.  Now that validation may come in many ways.  A smile, a thank you, just a nod.  In this new telecommunicative age with the Internet it is the written word.  You may never know how just a smiley face, or a thank you for the post, or good going will give someone else the courage to keep on.  Thats why I try to look for those that don't normally get comments.  I may not say much, but I want them to know someone out here has heard them and cares.

Thanks for the comment Wayne, and I hope you have a wonderful week. :)

Hi, Roberta!  Nope, not late at night -- early in the morning!!  Yes, we get up EARLY around here.  My husband works first shift and I just get up when he does, at least while school is in session.  I see a lot of the West Coasters before they go to bed!  Strange how we meet up here at that time.  Sometimes I DO get insomnia though, maybe three times a year I'll have a week or two when I just can't sleep.  I think it's something hereditary -- my brother has always slept in little "shifts", sleeping a few hours, waking and then going back to bed.  He's a cop now and that works perfectly for him, the different shifts don't even phase him.

Way off topic!  So sorry, please carry on.  Your post is fantastic and I'm going to go say hi to someone I don't know because of it.  Thanks again!

Roberta- Very good post.. short and to the point.. this is a tough one and there have been a lot of recent posts about the lack of comments..No question much of the problem is that there are just so many members.. I don't know what or if there is an answer to the lack of comments.   I do know that if we want comments on our posts we need to make comments on other posts.

I know exactly what you mean.  But I think success at Active Rain is so much like life. It takes more than a good post to attract comments.  It's not only what is said, it's who says it and who knows the person who has said it.  It's very much like a political campaign.  People don't have the time to read everything so they have to make choices.  Many times the choice is to do what's easy and familiar.

If I write something good, I know that it's good when I hit the post button.  It's a thrill to get a comment and I consider it icing on the cake.  If it doesn't get a comment, the post is still satisfying to me.  It just tells me that this might not be the right audience for my post.

Thank you for your comments and I have to agree that if we want others to read our posts and comment we must do the same for them.  It's a good way to start and get known and noticed.  I hope you have a great day. :)

Thank you for your comments.  I guess what this was saying is that everyone wants to be validated.  On AR the way to do that is to comment.  Where there are no comments there is no validation. Yes, points are nice but I think for most of us it is the validation more than the points....and then maybe the point become the validation. I hope you have a great day. :)

Thank you for the very nice  comments.  But remember the tree that fell in the forest?  The forest were all the other trees that helped nourish that tree.  It is the rest of you here in AR that have made it all possible. Have a great and wonderful day.

Thank you for stopping by and commenting.  I love the quote.  I think it is Shakespeare, but I'm not sure.  Please let me know.  I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Deep thoughts =p

It seems to me that some blogs don't get a lot of traffic because they arn't placed in the right location.

You could be right, but there are those that no matter where they are posted don't seem to get the action they deserve.  Thanks for stopping by and commenting. :)  Have a great weekend.

Thanks for the comments and I agree.  What is so wonderful about AR is the communication with our fellow humans.  It is a treasure.  Have a great day and wonderful weekend.
