Holiday cards for past clients - a great way to keep in touch!

We sent out our holiday cards to past clients last week.  We do this every year, and we're always happy with the responses that we get.  We typically divide clients up into two sections - those that get a card only, and those that get a card plus a small gift.  The gift is usually a gift pass to the local James Island County Park Holiday Festival of Lights - it's one of the best light displays in the state.  The more passes that you purchase, the greater the discount on the rates.  It's an easy way to send gifts that are still personalized, and the clients always enjoy using them.  In fact, we've already gotten messages back from these clients.  Even if you don't want to pay for gifts, cards are a great, inexpensive way to keep up with past clients.  So, even if your marketing budget is a little tight towards the end of the year, I'd recommend sending just cards (or post cards) to former clients that you'd want to work with again.

And, if you want to include a mailable gift, gift passes or tickets are a great way to go.  I even know an agent who coordinates with the local movie theater for tickets.  She sends out cards to past clients telling them they can go on a certain date and receive up to a certain number of free movie tickets.  That way, she offers the gift but only has to pay for the people who actually show up to the movies.  I thought that was a really good idea.  It would take some coordinating, but at least you would know that none of your tickets were wasted money.

Just thought I would pass these two ideas along to anyone looking for holiday marketing suggestions.  It's still not too late to send out your cards!

Thanks for the ideas. We sent out cards this year but made them more personal instead of business. We have a light show at Callaway Gardens that we may include some passes to next year. Merry Christmas!
