Which Comes First - The Title or the Post (POINTLESS blog entry)

Maybe this isn't pointless. But I wonder? Do you ever come up with the title before you write an article, or does the title always follow the post. Survey says...

For me, it's usually an idea that I then put into writing.  The title is the last thing, although I play around with the possibilities in my head the whole time I'm writing.

Jeff, I usually come up with the title last. Post, picture, title.

Article first, always!   I can give you 15 titles for any article. I find it much easier to think up a title, a lot harder to compose a full article:)

Jeff...I am fairly new, but for me the title usually comes after the post.  In fact, I believe that I usually take a line from the first paragraph and use it.  I have a much harder time coming up with the pictures to go with my post.  I try to keep everything related and valuable to others.  As a non-writer this has been a very trying experience.

Sally - sounds like the right approach for you. Thanks!

Allison - my approach is much the same. Often the post takes on a life of its own and the title needs to get nixed.

Bryant - yep, that's what I expected, for some reason! And it's always a winner IMO

Melody - Thanks for commenting. Interesting how that happens, isn't it?

Karen - Thanks, Karen. Sometimes I have the ahrdest time with a creative title, and often they fall flat, I think.

Theresa - Yep, the pictures can be tough, depending on the topic. I have the same problem. Thanks for commenting.

It all seems very personal doesn't it?

Thanks for visting my pointless post!

Then Title Name

Then Blog...

I need a pic to drive home the ideas in my head to help people see my vision..

Jeff, it happens both ways for me.  But I find it easier if I already have a title.  Sometimes I have the Post all done and sit there scratching my head for a title that reflects what I wrote.

Scott - LOL. Interesting - I can't normally add a pic until I have written the article. On rare occasions a picture gives me an idea. THanks!

George - thanks for your comments. I am a "post first" person more times than "title first"

Kaye - LOL. But look how many points I am giving away by all the comments! I may have to write a longer blog on this to get some points - it seems to strike a chord with people.

The muse visits as it cares to, any given day.

Either way.  Sometimes title first.  Sometimes the post.

The better titles are the ones that come first, with the post built on them.

Great issue to ponder Jeff.  Hmmm, many times I've got a title in my head, but then the blog doesn't flow as easily.  Other times I'm typing the blog as fast as I can and get stumped on the title.  Either way I'm just happy to be writing :)

Jeff...

For me...It's both :)

Sometimes I have a great title that needs content then other times I have great content that needs title.

Did that even make sense? Shall we discuss the chicken and the egg now. LOL.

TLW...ROAR!

Mike - thanks for commenting.

Tina - amen on the writing. You can't let the lack of a great title keep you from writing a good post.

TLW - Yep, makes perfect sense to me. And we both know the answer to that question, don't we!? :)

Ray -well there is some flexibility. Thanks for your comments.

I agree with TLW, I have a list of titles waiting to be researched and notes & jotts of ideas waiting to be fleshed out, if I were just independently wealthy I could read and blog all the time!

Jeff ~ yes, sometimes a title is just too good not to use.  I also have blogged about the photo after the fact.  I doesn't matter which comes first...usually.

Jeff, interesting topic.  I had never stopped to think about it.  But now that you made me =) I've discovered that I always have the title ready in my head before I ever start committing the post to google docs.  So for me, it is always title first.  I think I've only changed it once.

Michelle - Thank you for visiting and for commenting. Your view is similar to many others. I see a trend

KK - thanks. I don't think it matters which is first fundamentally (but I am not a writing expert). What seems to be important is what works for the particular writer in question. No right or wrong answer.

Kaye - LOL.

Thanks, Maggie. Glad I sparked some thoughts on this subject.

Thanks, all, for your comments and thoughts.
