The Allergy Epidemic Affects 1 out of 4 Americans

The allergy Epidemic

Estimates from a skin test survey suggest that allergies affect as many as 40 to 50 million people in the United States. 1

Allergic diseases affect more than 20% of the U.S. population. 2

Allergic diseases are the sixth leading cause of chronic disease in the United States. 1

It is estimated that in 1998, increased absenteeism and reduced productivity due to allergies cost U.S. companies more than $250 million.3

If one parent has allergic disease, the estimated risk of a child to develop allergies is 48%; the child's estimated risk grows to 70% if both parents have a history of allergies.

Indoor Air Quality Assessment Course including Allergen and VOC Inspections.

This course opens up new markets including the health care industry, remediation industry, remodeling industry as well as new options for the concerned home buyer, home owner and owners of commercial property. This course includes:

  • Allergen Inspection and Testing procedures using the ELISA analytical method for exact counts of such problems as Dust Mites, Cat Dander, Dog Dander, Cockroach, Mice, Birds and other critters that cause Allergic Reactions.

  • Identifying Common Allergens

  • Allergen Inspection Process

  • Hands on Sampling Techniques

  • Procedures for Work Documentation

  • Business Practices

  • Bacteria Testing especially for flooding and / or Sewage backup with an understanding of black water and gray water. Bacteria testing can be offered to the home buyer if there has been any history of flooding or sewage backup to be sure that it is all cleaned up properly.

  • VOC's (volatile organic compounds) - products in the home and office that off-gas and cause the occupants to have more than allergic symptoms. These symptoms usually range from Headaches to Nausea and Vomiting. Testing for VOC is really easy and adds another tool to the Inspectors arsenal of products to use at NO ADDITIONAL expense for equipment to the inspector.

  • An update for Advanced Mold inspections with the newest apparatus and techniques now available plus questions and answers about using new techniques. This will include the new ERMI (EPA relative moldiness index) which is very useful to Inspectors and uses the same equipment as the Allergen Testing Equipment.

  • A total review section for other Indoor Air issues such a Radon, Lead, Asbestos, Carbon Monoxide, Carbon Dioxide, etc.

This is a full 8 Wisconsin and NACHI CE Hour Course.
