This morning, our weekly broker's caravan was hosted by Maui Preparatory Academy. It was a treat to begin the morning with a serenade by the Kindergarten class, who won third place in their age category in this year's prestigious Na Mele O Maui student singing competition.
Maui Prep opened its doors in 2005, on approximately 15 acres of land in Napili donated by Maui Land and Pineapple Company, parent company of the Kapalua Resort. The plantation-style campus is nestled among the pineapple fields, and has amazing ocean, island, and mountain views. Napili is located about 15-20 minutes drive from Lahaina town, and about 5 minutes from the Kapalua Resort.
The Mission of MPA is to provide a superior education program for West Maui Students, in a nurturing, safe and stimulating environment. Currently, MPA offers enrollment for Pre-k to 11th grade, and next year, the MPA will graduate its first senior class.
Listening to Headmaster George Baker's overview, the school focuses matching its students to, and preparing them for, the college of their dreams. I was impressed to learn how the school also fosters community involvement through a variety of volunteer projects. Just recently, students planted 300 trees in a reforestation project. Other projects include recycling, monthly food drives, and beach cleanups.
When working with families relocating to West Maui, the educational opportunities available for their children are of utmost importance. Tuition assistance is available, with approximately 35% of the 185 students receiving need-based assistance.
