Do you think that we can all learn from the principals behind the amazingly successful series, Dancing with the Stars?
It occurred to me that the beautiful dancers, spectacular choreography and the performers' sheer dedication and determination are elements for us to incorporate into our real estate practices. We all watch as the candidates overcome fears, hurdles and even disabilities to perform. In our current real estate world, we are experiencing a challenging market. Sellers are frustrated and stressed as they approach the realization that their property values are falling. Buyers are few and far between, expecting high levels of service and looking for the ultimate values.
Just like the candidates in Dancing with the Stars, we can follow their same simple steps:
•1. Be prepared to go on stage and sparkle. Let's ensure that the seller's property is presented to its best advantage - - lights on, drapes open, the residence clean and smelling fresh and staged to full advantage.
•2. Practice the art of real estate-know your inventory, square footage comparisons, prove the value or unique nature of your offering. Don't forget--the first impression is all critical.
•3. Be respectful of the other dancers. It never hurts to thank the co-operating broker for sharing your listing and to wish the buyer and broker good luck with their search. After all, you would like them to return. Always leave the door wide open for a second showing.
•4. If you stumble on stage, recover quickly and move on. Problems are fast to surface in today's market. Both sellers and buyers want their real estate advisor to guide them, create excitement and confidence in the transaction as you move across the dance floor to closing.
As the market becomes tougher, we all need to know how to dance to the new tunes in terms of professionalism, ethics and customer service. Make every performance count. Your dance steps are sure to improve and the rewards will follow as your fitness and agility improves!
Good luck in your 2009 performances.
