Shoveling Snow

Unfortunately the time is upon us here in the central Vancouver Island area where we must shovel Snow. Yuk. Snowfall In ParksvilleHere in paradise we always lucked out and the snow stayed up on the mountains. Not this year however, and it appears we are to get more. At last measurement here in Parksville we have an accumulated 22 inches and more where it has been blown up against something. There are some things to consider when shoveling snow.

Not every one is going to have a heart attack, this mostly happens to people with existing conditions, that doesn't mean that you don't have to be careful. If you are like me and didn't get out to shovel when it was falling, you now have 10 + inches to shovel. Take your time, do a little path at a time. Remember everything you have been taught about lifting objects as it really applies here. You may have a shovelful of light snow, but just twisting the wrong way, and you throw your back out. May have been better off just leaving the snow. I know for the nest snowfall, I am going to be keeping up with it as it falls. It really isn't that much work.

What I left myself to shovel  So remember, take your time, use a shovel you are comfortable with and listen to your body. If you have    been leading a sedentary lifestyle, this will or can be extremely hard work. This is the season to be jolly, not  in pain or dead.

Hi David - it's been an amazing few weeks on the island, hasn't it. The snow is beginning to turn to rain down here in Victoria.

All the best to you for 2009!

David
