Hello to all,
Jane - My advice? Dive in and don't worry about the immediate response. I've been here a little over a month. I started blogging (and had been outside of here a bit as well) and didn't stop to worry about if people would enjoy what I wrote or I would get business or meet other agents. I just did it. Before I knew it, people were talking to me and having conversations with me. Agents were offering me advice and telling me what they thought of my blog. Companies were emailing me because I did a blog about them and asking what I thought about this or that. And I had someone stop by an open house who knew all about me because of my efforts here. Blog for the sake of blogging and know that it will come eventually. Blog about different things - listings, markets, your opinions, advice and questions, life, tools you use. Try to do it as often as you can. Learn how to make your blogs better (I recommend reading Mike Mueller's recent post for some tips - "How Long To Write a Post?," it has some great tips in there (especially about Flickr.com)). Commenting on posts is a great way to learn from others...comment, ask questions, and then go back for follow up (on your own blog especially). Commenting will also introduce you to new people who will wind up subscribing to your blog or stopping by often. You will build your own little community within the community before you know it. Don't think about points too hard (they're great to have, but not why you should be blogging). Join a few groups when you're ready to expose your blog to a wider audience. And my best piece of advice - don't be afraid to ask another AR member for advice...they seem to love to give it.
you have to turn yourself into a "mini reporter" and take pictures of your town, write about stuff in your area everyday, and then turn yourself into the expert of all the neighborhoods you want to represent!
Be sure to post all of your listings. We seem to get the best response when people are asking about specific properties.
Jane, Welcome to the Rain! Just be active in the rain, and it will be good to you. Look for blogs that interest you, and comment. You will find bloggers that you go back to on a regular basis. Blog from the heart, about things that you care about. Just remember, there is more to life than active rain. You can lose your self for hours at a time here.
(I just had to say hi to a Fellow NJ Rainer!)

great start to AR -- be careful it can be addictive -- best of Luck -- JE
One thing that I underestimated was the value of good comments. I would agonize over doing a great post -- but zipped through my comments. Then I realized that when I made good comments on posts, people would come and view my profile, and subscribe to my blog . . . great comments and lots of comments - more than 10 will give you more associates, points and a better experience on the rain!
Jane....Welcome to ActiveRain. This is a great community to network with others as well a great place to learn from other's experiences and knowledge. I've enjoyed it; I hope you enjoy it as well.

Hi Jane and welcome to active|rain.
Becoming an active member of this community will definitely help you out in the long run (in the near future also). If you've already established a web presence with your customized website then make sure to post your personalized hyperlinks on it - no exception! This will increase youur chances of being found by people in your community. Also, check out localism.com - by default you've already got a page there that is linked to your Activerain blog profile. Look for the outside blog button on your main page.
There are thousands of tips, tools, and tricks of the trade here. Be sure to check them out. Happy Holidays and a prosperous New years. Best of luck and see you around.

Look at you - I don't get 20+ comments on too many of my posts ... very cool. I hope you get addicted and we can have mini AR parties :)
Welcome to Active Rain. It just gets easier after your first blog. Just write about what interests you.
I am new to AR as well and wanted to send a friendly hello and welcome. I think it will take awhile to get in the groove of this blogging thing but at least we are not alone in that!

Welcome! I think you will be amazed at how much you can learn here. My suggestion is to put cyberhomes.com widget on your web site and let everyone know about it. It allows the viewer to types in the address of any property and see what the sales history is. This page has the most hits on my web site.
