When I'm Driving In the Carson Valley It Seems Like the Road Changes Names ... Is It Me?

Sierras and Jobs Peak in Carson ValleyYou are experiencing one of the wonderful quirks about the Carson Valley, and, yes, several of the roads do have multiple names.  The fact that U.S. Highway 395 is also called Main Street is a no-brainer.  Other roads meander for a long ways changing names along the way.  Take Foothill Road for instance.  It begins in the south as Dressler Lane where it goes through the Dressler Home Ranch.  From there it turns into Fairview Lane, thence to Riverview, thence to Foothill Road and thence to Jacks Valley Road.  Point to remember, it starts at Dressler Lane, not Dressler Road which is miles northeast of there.

Pinenut road turns to Riverview Drive which turns to Dressler Road and then to Centerville.  It's really quite fun, isn't it?  Long Valley turns to Dressler Road which becomes Riverview Drive.  Same road as the first sentence of this paragraph with another origin that fades in to it from the South.  How about Waterloo Lane turning to Toler Lane which then becomes Fish Springs Road that ultimately becomes Jacobsen Lane?  Makes giving directions a delight.

Waterloo goes from Centerville to Highway 88 and then becomes Mottsville.  Those type of Valley intersections are fun - left to Waterloo, right to Mottsville.  You see that in Minden, going north on Main Street (U.S. 395), it is left to 6th street and right to Buckeye.  Starting on 6th Street, you go to Buckeye which becomes Benton.

Our Advice:  If you are ordering pizza or an ambulance, be very clear where you are in the Valley.  There are some confusing roads, Cathy and Kathy - they are many miles apart and verbally sound identical, of course.  If you are on Waterloo, are you on the Waterloo West of Centerville or East of Centerville Lane?  If you aren't specific your pizza will be cold when they find you.  Furniture deliveries?  Give them enough details to find you easily.  If you are on a road that changes names - let them know about the name changes so they don't panic seeing another name on the road sign and turn around.  They might get frustrated and take your stuff back to the store.

Most of the road names reflect Carson Valley history, and shouldn't be changed.  If the names are confusing to you then get a road map and get oriented - the historic evolution of road names in Carson Valley is part of its allure and shouldn't be changed in our opinion.  When it comes to choosing professionals to assist you with your real estate needs...
