Marriage and Business

By
Services for Real Estate Pros

Many of us here are married and have a great passion for business. The question is how do we balance the two. We certainly love our spouse and we part of the reason some of us work so hard is to provide a better way of living for our spouse and family.

Here are a few pointers to keep your spouse happy and make them your biggest fan.

1. Keep your word regarding the commitments you've made to your spouse regarding your personal lives.

2. Keep your word regarding the time you say you're going to commit to your business

3. Be sure to speak highly of your spouse regarding their commitment to you and your business.

4. Be sure to show your spouse affection above and beyond just the effort you're making to make things better financially.

5. Be sure to let your spouse know they are #1.

There are all sorts of things you can do to make sure your business and marriage stays on track. Married folks who are in business have to remember a happy home is better than all the money or success in the world. Do keep in mind though, you can have a happy home along with money and success. That makes for a happier home.

Stay blessed,

Ced

You make a good point and this was a good post. We have to view our family as the most important thing.

Great Post... Our jobs as Realtors can really get demanding of our time. We need to keep in mond who is behind us, supporting us, and cheering for us. I agree to go above and beyond to show you care...it will come around to you as well.

Thanks for reminding us all,  jane

Well stated and points worth remembering. Too often we get caught up in the business world and allow it to take away from our family time.

Hi Ced

There are a lot of similarity between marriage and business, you have to be committed, you have to be in it for the long term and you have find a balance between your marriage and business.

Good luck and success

It can be so easy to forget what is most important.  Maybe not forget, but just get so wrapped up in trying to do a job.  We can all benefit by this reminder.

Ced - Thanks for the reminder.  Marie and I are sometimes together many hours of the day and it can get a little tense when one of us 'forgets' something or we disagree on something, because we tend to take our work home with us.  It is important to remember that we are first supposed to enjoy life!  Other things - thorns - can tend to reach out and snag us at times and cause us to lose our direction and forget our purpose here.

Ced, My husband has been in business 18 years, I support him and do his bookkeeping. I started my own business in Feb. of this year. He has been a great support for me. We are pretty much together 24/7 and have been married 29 years. Something must be right!  It can work if you are committed to each other. Good post!
