Eartha Kitt passes away at the age of 81 from colon cancer
Yahoo News Story
I logged on tonight to check in and found this article. It's very well written, I do hope you take the time to read it. She was an amazing woman and performer.
I remember Eartha best as Cat Woman. I had no idea she was 81. A neat lady!
Chris, she might have been the best Cat Woman around. It truly was a sad day.
Marchel - I have seen her singing over the years on different variety shows. She was fabulous. Of course, we all remember Cat Woman.
Thom and Ray - From the article, it did sound like she had a good life and was grateful for her fame.
Rebecca - It is sad. I saw a Santa Baby on Youtube that said it was from 2006. Hard to believe that's true, she looked pretty amazing at 79.
Robert - Her purr was definitely the best. She was the coolest Cat Woman.
Barbara - I'm sure her Cat Woman is what made her the most famous, and that purr sure went a long way!
Robin - Definitely a great legacy and life. She won't be forgotten.
Jennifer - Funny that a purr could make someone famous. She sure rocked it.
Ellie - That is interesting timing. It is possible she held out for just that. When my grandfather was dying of cancer, I know he waited until all of his brothers and sisters were present and he had a chance to visit before he let go.
Lenn - She definitely was one of a kind.
Michael - No matter who else has done Santa Baby, seems like Ms. Kitt owned it.
Ann - She looked amazing at 81 and apparently wrote a fitness book at one point. Very neat lady.
Danny - Definitely the best Cat Woman. Very sad.
Yeah Chris that bummed me out too. I refuse to listen to Madonna's crummy version of that song because no one can sing it like Eartha!!!!
And what an amazing woman, on broadway just a couple of years ago, looking awesome as always.
BTW did you know Van Johnson died Dec. 12? All my favs are leaving me )-:
Terry - Madonna couldn't come close. She was an amazing woman, and looked amazing her entire life.
I did not know about Van Johnson, that's sad.
Chris, thanks for posting this. I hadn't heard. In my effort to hear only good news, I am not watching TV except for movies. So I missed this. We are loosing all the great ones. Let's hope our generation will rise to the occasion and fill the vacancies left by these pioneers. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. I watched Sex in the City, the movie, with my mom tonight and it reinforced something I' known all of my life. Women friends are invaluable!! xxoo
I love Santa Baby... it's one of my all time favorites. I heard about her death on the news, but have not read that particular news article, but am off to do so now. She was a magnificent woman.
Susan - I constantly avoid the news for the same reason, however this was on my yahoo IM popup and I had to visit and read. She was definitely one of the cool ones. I did have a wonderful Christmas, I hope you did as well. I'm sure you were more careful with the leftovers than you were after Thanksgiving! : )
Tammy - She was a magnificent woman, I hope you enjoy the article.
Hi Jim - I hadn't thought of it that way but I like it a lot. Santa took her away, sweet lady.
Best wishes to you too!
Wow. She was amazing. Way ahead of her time. A pioneer to be sure. One of my favorite 'fun' Christmas songs, my number one, is "Santa Baby" by Eartha Kitt. If you haven't heard it, you need to. Way better than Madonna's version.
Thanks for the post. Turned out to be rather a nice tribute to her.
Deborah - Yes, she was definitely ahead of her time. A wonderful woman with a wonderful career. Thanks for stopping by.
Chris, I was so bummed when I heard the news. Right up until last year she was a vibrant exotic entertainer. Seems all my favs are leaving )-:
Hi Terry - It is very sad, but I'm thinking it must be easier to go fast and be vibrant for most of your life. Idk, when I'm old & frail I may change my mind about that and find there's still plenty to hang on for, we'll see. She was amazing.
Chris- I liked her purrr the best but the Cat lady before her I really had the hots for, that tight black costume when I was a young boy drove me a little batty.
