One of the things I remember growing up in Caldwell Idaho is that neighboring Nampa was a big rival of those of us that lived in Caldwell. There was and still is a huge rivalry between the Caldwell Cougars and the Nampa Bulldogs. Street parades and tail gate parties were common a few days before these high school football teams would meet.
Big brother Nampa has grown up since those days, so much so that it is now the largest city in Canyon County and the 2nd largest city in Idaho, 2nd only to the capital city of Boise. The population of Nampa exploded the last few years and current conservative estimates place Nampa's population at 86,000 for the 2007 census.
The residential and commercial growth Nampa Idaho has been unprecedented and the real estate market remains very good, bucking a national trend of depressed real estate markets nation wide. One can not drive in any direction from downtown Nampa without seeing a new residential development or commercial pad going up. One encounters constant detours due to ongoing street construction and it is a contractor's paradise. Services, agricultural, technology and medical related industries are the backbone of Nampa. Nampa has done a wonderful job of revitalizing the downtown area and preserving the history and architecture. The old train depot which is now known as The Canyon County Historical Museum is pictured to the left. Numerous other historic downtown buildings are homes to office complexes, restaurants and shops.
Amalgamated Sugar Company in Nampa is one of the last sugar processing plants in the United States and is a grower owned company that processes sugar beets and refines them into sugar. The plant has been a landmark in the area since I can remember. Micron Technology has been a strong contributor to the local economy and has a plant in Nampa.
My company RE/MAX Advantage moved to our current location in 2002 and at that time our office building was the only building 
here. Since then two more large office complexes have been built plus financial office, equine centers, Hampton Inn Hotel, and numerous other business have joined us. Just in the last 6 months a new Wal-Mart Superstore and Sam's Club went up right across from my office and are in full operation. Directly across the Freeway from us a brand new J.C. Penney store will open soon in a new strip mall that is opening up. 3 miles to the west of my office is a new Costco Store, Best Buy, Kholes, Old Navy, Target, Petco and Bed Bath and Beyond. It is amazing to see all that is going on.
The Idaho Center is walking distance from my office. It is home to the annual Snake River Stampede which is one of the top 10 rodeos in the nation. I remember my mom and dad taking me to this rodeo when I was a little boy and it was always an event to remember. No days The Idaho Center has held numerous events like state high school wrestling, monster truck, basketball, pro-rodeo bull riding and numerous concerts take place annually. Artists that have performed at the Idaho Center include Elton John, Cher, Eric Clapton, Jack Johnson, Martin McBride, Aerosmith and many, many more. There is also an amphitheater right next to the Idaho center in Nampa that has outdoor concerts. When there are concerts we can here them from our office which is awesome.
The Nampa Civic Center in downtown Nampa is the home to many monthly company training programs plus classes and programs like the annul Christmas programs. The facility is an awesome newer building and is close to city hall. Many annual awards ceremonies take place as well and reservations must be made a year in advance to be able to schedule a company party.
Beautiful golf courses like Ridgecrest, Centennial and Broadmore Country club are awesome 18 hole courses. A new course is going in named Hunters Pointe and is currently under constructio
n in S.W. Nampa along with an exclusive new housing development.. Ridgcrest Golf Course has a full 18 holes plus a corporate 9 hole course. Ridgecrest is located 5 minutes from my office and several of us throughout the summer months will take our lunch and go play the 9 hole corporate course and be back to our office in and hour and half. We leave our cell phones in our cars and we have more fun than one can imagine.
Northwest Nazarene College is the pride and joy of Nampa. I have written a complete blog about this wonderful university and a link to that blog is below. When you visit Nampa, Idaho you cannot miss it when you come in through I-84. It will be the place that "has it happening".
