A Most Valued Gift..

A Most Valued Gift..

We have all at one time or another received a gift that we highly prize.  We look at it and can remember everything about where we were and what we were doing when we received it.  There are times that we just go thru life doing what comes natural to us.  Not expecting anything in return and then someone comes up and says thank you with something that you will remember forever.

In June 2006 I had this very experience.  As many of you know my son was stationed in Bagdad, Iraq from May 2005 to May 2006 serving with the 220th Engineers.  While he was there the office that I was in at the time adopted his squad, sending them pre-paid phone cards and other items.  It was our way of saying thank you for their service.  We sent these items monthly until they rotated back to the United States and home.

Once my son was released to head home he made a stop by the house and presented me with this box A Very Special Giftthat was hand made by the guys in his squad as their way of saying thank you.  It may not look like much to some but to me it means the world to me.  Those men and women gave while they were and still came back saying thank you.

Don...that was a great way to say thanks to all who served.  I had not thought of adopting  a squad serving in Iraq. Thanks for the idea!

William,

This is a wonderful thing to do for those in the service.  My suggestion would be to get the whole office involved.  Let me know if I can help.

Hi Don!  That was so generous of you and your office to recognize the need for communication for the soldiers.  What is so touching is that those troops gave so much of themselves for us and continued giving, even when they returned home.  The gift, you'll treasure forever, I'm sure!

Patricia,

To me it is the gift that keeps on giving.  The real plus in all of this is that everyone that went over there came back unharmed.  Just one more reason to smile when I look at it.

That is an amazing gift and the gesture priceless!  Then again..what do you expect from people who fight for our country and also remember who it was made for!

I have a box my son made me when he was in the 6th grade...it will always be my jewelry box!  Those items can never be replaced and nothing to me is more valuable..well except the snow globe my other son made..with a gerbers baby food jar.I think that was the 3rd grade..oh..they would be so sensitive if they knew I wrote this.

Midori,

These soldiers did what was asked of them to do and didn't ask for a thing.  We had the opportunity to help brighten their day at least once a month.

We all have those special gifts and I think that we need to go and dust them off every now and then just to remember how special they really are.

Thank you ma'am for your kind words
