Does using the internet stimulate ADD?

By

woman on internetDo you ever start out researching a particular topic on the internet and get sidetracked? It happens to me all the time.  If I were able to focus on the task at hand, I think I could accomplish my goal in just a few minutes.  But many internet sites/pages make this difficult.  Most are so crammed full of enticing items and flashing icons that it's hard to concentrate on just one.

Instead of following my train of thought to its conclusion, something often unrelated signs in all directionscatches my eye and I'm off on a trail that can twist and turn until I've completely forgotten the reason I started my search in the first place and lost all track of time.

I read a recommendation somewhere yesterday (I was researching a topic that took me far and wide) to keep web pages simple.  They compared the cluttered Yahoo home page with the very clean and simple Google page. If every web page was as focused as Google, I think my productivity (related to internet work) would increase exponentially.

Is there a group for that?....The ADD deal. I suffer from being so distracted too- the internet feeds that!.

Colleen, I often start down those meandering Internet trails.  I just recently changed my home page to igoogle from yahoo and I do like it.  Anything that makes life simpler is good in my book.

Simpler isn't always better but it sure does help! I do think the Internet does cause those with mild cases of ADD to really spaz out.  Just so much to see and do and learn.  Active Rain is like a highly focused part of the Internet that feeds the ADD in Realtors!

I tend to do the same thing. I guess I need to make myself be more focused

LOL...oh, this is so true!  I have said for the past few years I thought I was afflicted with adult onset ADD due to the 'net.  Rec'd in the mail recently a mailer from a local theater...one of the performances in 2009 is going to be Camelot...I went on YouTube to quickly remember some of the lyrics...that lead to videos of Audrey Hepburn...which lead to videos of Julie Andrews...LOL...before I knew it, this trip down memory lane had cost me 2 hours of time!  LOL

It's a very important point.  One should look at their web page as if they were a comsumer.  Would they really hang around so they can read about your grandma, your pet dog, your childhood, yada, yada, yada, or do they just want real estate facts?  I'm still in the process of simplifying my website after doing this.

Hey Colleen, I definitely fit the bill on this. In order to keep myself on track, I actually have a written "to do" list on my desk so that I at least keep getting back on track when working on and using the internet. Great post!

Love it!  And so true!  There are a few times I've been chasing rabbits so long, I forgot where I was and what I was originally looking for! LOL!  Look back and see how fast this thing has grown.  Is anyone concerned about Google and their servers knowing everything about everyone?

So true Randy, and yes, I'm concerned about so much personal information on the internet. I never give out my true birthdate for fear of identity theft ... or is it because no one really needs to know my age :)
