What's the Story on Walsenberg?

While on our journey from Denver (worst traffic I've ever seen and I live near DC) to Alamosa we drove through the town of Walsenberg (below Pueblo). Looked like a town that had some promise, but needed work. Is there a plan for that place?

Brett, I've been thinking about this for days. Other than being a cute little town I don't know what else to say. It's pretty, the people who live there like it. It's one of those out of the way places that isn't all that far from things. I'm going to keep working on this.

I work in Pueblo and live near Canon City. And you are correct the South West is something to be seen in person.

You're right, Walsenburg is a town with potential.  It's location is good, since everyone heading to Alamosa, Pagosa, Durango, has to pass through there.  Good views with Spanish Peaks, La Veta Pass.

But the economy has had a hard time there.  Unemployment is often higher than average.  Real estate sales are sluggish.  It just hasn't reached the critical mass of people who have a vision for the future.

I do inspections there occasionally.  Sometimes older homes in town that are "victorian" styles at great prices for the buyers.  More often rural properties, and that's where Huerfano County's real promise is:  They have rural properties, cabins, hobby farms, at prices below the rest of the state.

You ask what the plan is for Walsenburg?  I haven't heard that there is one.  But it is a great little town.

Just read a brief history. It was an old coal town. When the coal disappeared the town fell on hard times. In real estate it's location, location, location and that looks like a good one.
