3,400 Miles and Counting

Real Estate Agent with Long & Foster Real Estate, Inc.

One more day of travel, and tomorrow we'll be home (sweet home).

Since 12/20, when we left Crofton, MD, we have traveled through D.C., Virginia, Tennessee, and Arkansas to the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas.  After a few days, including Christmas at our daughter's house, we headed to Houston to see our son and then traveled through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina to Pinehurst, North Carolina - our favorite golf resort - for a one-nighter.

As we passed road signs for various cities and towns along the way, names of ActiveRain friends came to mind.  If only we had time to stop and meet every one of them!

For the last leg of our trip, we'll go through Virginia again... it's about 7 hours to home (sweet home).

During our long drive, I've taken lots of pictures and made lists of potential blog topics - just in case I ever catch up on my email and have time to blog again.  One of the first topics will be to disclose how I managed to make six or seven posts to Focus On Crofton without touching my computer for the past 10 days.  Another will be a review of my new mini computer.  And I have pictures to share of my visit to "ICE" at the Gaylord Texas on Christmas Eve.

3,400 miles down, about 350 to go...  It's been a great trip through 10 states and D.C. in just 10 days.  We've experienced temperatures ranging from 15 degrees when we left our motel in Arkansas to 83 degrees a few days later in Dallas-Fort Worth.  Today is a sunny balmy 60-ish in N.C., warmer than our last visit here for Thanksgiving 2007.   I don't know what weather to expect back home in Maryland, but I'm looking forward to being there to celebrate New Year's Eve.

Happy New Year, everybody!

Margaret- Have a safe trip home. I love road trips. We were even tossing around the spontanious idea of driving Tristan to see snow next month sometime just for a quick one since I know he is going to complain when he gets too cold:) He just does not understand since he has not been in snow. It looks so nice in photos:)

Hi Margaret...I guess you'll be passing by sometime tomorrow.  As you go by exits 104, 110, 1118, you can always get off I-95 and head west to Lake Anna.

Now I'm anxious to discover how you managed to post while away from your computer and what mini-computer you have.

When the Mac Air came out I thought about buying that and since then (yes, it has been quite some time) I've been vacillating between that or one of the minis.

Happy New Year.

Ok That was really funny - oh maybe I read it wrong - hahaha!

Drive safe - I know how it goes on the road. Drove cross country in 3 days once - never again!

Katerina - funny thing is that kids don't feel the cold.  They could play 'til they freeze.

Pat - Thanks, 'looking forward to it.

Kate - That's one of those places I'd love to visit.  We're always on the lookout for the next place to live... 'even went house-shopping in our first few hours here in Pinehurst, but concluded it's too "country" for us, after living near D.C. most of our lives.

Jo - Wasn't thinking of it in that context.  LOL.

Margaret, we traveled to Santa Clarita, California to visit children/grandchildren. We made a point of hooking up with Jeff Turner while we were here. A true delight. As did you, we thought of many we've gotten to know in the Rain....will plan to meet with them another trip over. Since our children are here, I suspect we'll be back. ;-)

We're leaving to go home in the morming - 430 miles.... drive safely!

Morning Margaret,

Have a safe last leg of your trip. If you are anything like us you are looking forward to getting home and sleeping in your own bed. We have been gone since the 17 th, out west in the snow and cold. Enjoyable, but looking forward to being back in paradise and sleeping in my own bed as the new year comes in.

Happy New Year to you and yours.

Sounds like a great trip.  And I just gave your phone number to someone who is looking to buy a home on your side of the beltway!  Hope you enjoy your "mini me" as I named my little computer.

Hi Margaret, Happy New Year and have a safe trip home.  Hope you will have some photos to share with us.  I have made the drive from Virginia to San Antonio but it was in the summer and I was in my twenties.  Hope you enjoyed your trip.

Teri - 'Hope you had as much fun as we did on our trip.

Jesse - Thank you.  It will be good to walk around at will!  15 hours in the car in a single day is about 7 too many!

Hal - Sorry about the snow... we had some cold en route to Texas, but we had great weather there (83 degrees) and en route home.

Cindy - Yes, you inspired me with your Asus mini!  And I didn't leave it to Santa... I bought my own.

Martha - See you soon!  'Hope your Christmas was a happy one.

Jeff - No such luck... There was no stopping my husband for photos.  We were on a mission to reduce days on road and maximize days with family.

Shirley - It was a treat to come home a different route and see even more of the country, althoug we drove in the dark a lot, given the short days this time of year.

Margaret....Oh, there are so many things wrong with this post....where do I begin?

Let's start with the mention of Georgia and what, no call no visit, no cup of coffee? I'm crushed. Other than the number of states mentioned in one sentence, I'm going to guess you hardly saw one state line before you crossed the next one.....we kinda just flew by in a flash, eh? But then again, how many times have I passed Maryland on my way to New York? (Excuse...did not know you then!)

3700 miles in 10 days? No wonder you wanted (or needed) a new Jeep!! You had destinations in mind I can tell (family) but like Jeff said, where's the pictures? A future blog I trust?

I know you had a wonderful trip! We just did a "quickie" to the beach for our Business Plan Inspiration! Follow up Blog will hopefully be out later today or tomorrow.....Pictures Included! (except now I am just thinking how I should of taken pictures of some of the beautiful farm land we passed as we headed to and from the beach! )

Happy New Year! Hope to see you live in 2009!

Donna, my husband even commented that he'd like to visit there, after seeing some of your photos that I've pointed out to him.  But we were on a mission to get to Pinehurst.  We might try in Spring, depending on business.

Thom, You were in Floriday, so don't you dare try to make me feel guilty for skipping by Atlanta en route to Pinehurst.  Honestly, much of our mileage was after dark and I was busy on my little mini computer during the day.

I did think of you both, if that's any compensation.  :)

Did you see those cool signs in Texas on the outskirts of most of the cities? They say, "Public water supply approved." Do they really have to advertise that? Where are the cities where the public water supply is not approved? Those are the ones I want to skip -- LOL.

Russel - No, I didn't see any of those...  But Texas is a big state.  That is pretty funny.
