Flickr: Who is looking at your Photos?

By

You just never know what may happen on the Internet.  I found this out when I received an email on Flickr about a photo I had uploaded the other day. The email said they found the photo (must have been because of the tags) and it was perfect for a story that they were writing, and could they use it.

Flickr Photo "Published"

There was a link to the site with the story, which turned out to be a snippet of a story.  Regardless though, my photo did indeed fit with the theme, and so I agreed to let them use it.  I have always liked the photo because of the memory behind it.  They make sausage after they kill the pig, and gut it, putting the intestines in these wooden bowls.  After cleaning the intestines they then re-stuff them, and then hang the sausage in the barn, or attic to dry.  Yes, that was the first time I had ever seen anything like it and snapped a photo, with permission.

Romania apparently is on a Guiness Book of World Records kick because this sausage one is just one of a few they have done in the past couple weeks......Anyway, it felt good for someone to find my picture and want to use it. Wonder if that makes me vain LOL :)

Making Sausage

In case you missed it we started a Group for sharing photos so Bloggers could have a variety of photos to use on their blogs or websites just by giving credit to the Photographer.  If you haven't checked it out...go here

Happy New Year to Everyone....

Let's all do the best we can in whatever we choose,

and enjoy the small things that make everything so worthwhile :)

Kathy,

Great job pointing out the power of Flickr.  One of the keys is to make sure we all tag our photos properly.  Not just the obvious tags (location, name, thing, etc.) but some photos may be a dominant color scheme, convey a certain mood, perhaps have a theme.  I've found that some of my pics are noticed more for the oddball tag than the obvious one.  What a great way to get additional exposure to you, your photos and your sites.

Keep up the great job!

Take care,

Dale Chumbley

Dear Kathi,

Loved your photo!

What a great idea to have a site where you can share photos that can be used in blogs.

I tried to get onboard, but when I tried to register for Yahoo, I was bumped! Maybe I sisgned up years ago.

Any idea of how to fix it?

Thanks,

Barbara

Marian- Yea I guess it is :)  You need to have a Flickr account for our Group, then after you upload your pictures, put in our group but change the license to a cc one.  Flickr is pretty popular and should meet your needs, then later when you learn more look at other options...that would be my suggestion.

Barbara- I would say to just start a new Yahoo account.  And if your name has been used put a number or something in front or behind, that should do it :)  If you joined the Group, please read the guidelines and rules in the Discussion area....I'll be looking for your pics :)

Hi Kathy, I just checked out the group. There already are some amazing photos! Say, any idea on a quick resizing? I have a lot of high res. photos & Easy share software is slow. Thanks for any tips. By the way, those bulges that look like 'you know what' are intestines!  How do I know? We raised organically fed chickens (when I was a kid). Dad would butcher them. My sisters & I had to pluck them on saturday mornings (ick) then on sunday we had grilled, BBQ chicken!    The Horse Girl ~ Marian
