A sign of getting older or just getting wiser?

A sign of getting older or just getting wiser?

When ever the new year comes around, our minds and memories flash back through the year that's about to pass. We think about the good things and we think about the bad things that happened in the year.

As we get older our minds become filled with more memories of good and bad. And we think, if I would have, could have or should have, things might have been different.

We try to do best we can with what we have and never wish for bad things in our lives. Some times we may be in the wrong place at the wrong time and some times the right place at the right time.

The world is made up of positive and negative energy, and our lives are like this too.

I will tell you the truth, that 2008 was a very bad year with some very bad luck.

The best thing that happened to me in 2008 was being contacted from my son that I haven't seen in 14 years.

The second best thing that happened to me was to visit our daughter and my wife's family in Myanmar (Burma).

There were some other events that were quite enjoyable, and the rest of the events were terrible.

I do not want to dwell on the bad events and in the last few months of 2008, I have been only thinking of today. So when some bad event takes place, it is forgotten the next day.

Is this a sign of getting older or just getting wiser.

I do have big plans for 2009, but for now I am just living from day to day and coasting along.

And when bad things happen, I just brush them off and think of it as a learning experience.

"Have a Happy and Safe New Year Everyone"      See you in 2009!

With the years wisdom does come!  We learn to put things into perspective and to cherish those things that truly make a difference in our lives.  Happy New Year.

Robert-2009 is going to be a good year. I am going into it with a very positive attitude. I have had some rough times in 2008, but the good out weighed the bad. Happy New Year to you and your family.

My sentiments exactly Robert! I think that also makes us a wee bit smarter too. So maybe it is a sign of getting older. Maybe we will now be better prepared for 2009?

Reflection is an important ingredient to moving forward.  We learn from the past and try to build on it.  We learn to avoid past mistakes and improve on our successes.  I would also say that it's the process we use to grow wiser in our years.

As we get older, we have gathered enough wisdom (hopefully) along the way that we do not tend to dwell on things as much as we did when we were younger. We've been through enough bad times to know that the sun does eventually shine again, and if a door closes....well, we have to have hope that we are all going to find another one that leads us to something better.

Youth is all emotion and age gives you logic and reasoning. Here's one of my favorites - This Too Shall Pass.

Cherish the good times, and don't let the bad times go too deep.

Happy New Year!

Being able to spend time with members of your family must surely have made up for other not-so-nice things that happened in 2008.

Here's wishing that 2009 will bring you even more good fortune, good luck, and happiness.

Dear V.B.

Older and wiser are both relative terms.  I think you have found out that life isn't about waiting for storms to pass; it's about learning to dance in the rain (and the thunder and the lightning and the gale force winds, too).  Here's to you dancing in the rain in 2009!

I love to dance in the rain! A few of my favorite phrases:

Life's about change and nothing ever stays the same (song lyric?)

This too shall pass

I think you can look out of young eyes or old eyes, it's your personal choice. I've met some 20 year olds that act like they are 80 with nothing to look forward to, and I've met some 80 year olds that still view life with childlike wonder and grab it with both hands.

Life can change in a second, and I find you tend to get what you focus on. Might as well focus on the good stuff that happens to you, no matter how small and just keep walking through the shadows until you emerge back into the sun.

Robert, I'm not so young anymore, either ;) The one thing I hold on to during tough times, ( and 08 was not a picnic for me either), is that in all my life, I have always been able at some point to look back and say that while it was a difficult time, if that had not happened, I would not have found myself here, in this good place. I wish that for you, too.
