As some of you know I have been painting my house this week. Being in terrible physical condition and having much else to do, I spend a few hours each day on my project. It does give me time to think both while I am painting and while I am planning my work for the next stage of the project. Our house has vaulted ceilings with the vault being directly above the 3/4 wall in the kitchen.
The long and short of it is that I end up using 3 different ladders to complete the task of cutting in the corners. I use a step ladder an 8 foot ladder and an extension ladder. I was trying to relate this to real estate, and what I came up with is that natural ability will only take you so far. Once you reach the plateau you need some more or different tools to reach the next level.
The tools could be something like a mentor, a coach, books, trainings, seminars etc. The point that I am trying to make is that once you have gone as high as you possibly can with the tools that you have, you risk falling off the ladder, so to speak. It might mean frustration, burn out, lack of self confidence or the discouragement that drives so many from the business.
If you are still really trying to succeed in Real Estate, but have reached the plateau, it may be time to get a bigger ladder. Getting more training, hiring a coach, finding a mentor. You could invest in acquiring Realtor designations, ie CRS or EPro, or you could get the classes necessary to obtain your brokers license. There are many sales seminars with a Real Estate focus. My preferred method is to find a book by someone that has enjoyed some success or has a different approach than the one that you have been using.
Don't let the height of the wall discourage you, just find a ladder that is tall enough to help you scale it! Make it a Great Week, and have what is left of the Weekend!
