Elbow Road?

Real Estate Agent with Fathom Realty

Ever heard of it.  Of course if you live in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake you have.  It is one of those curvy, windy, narrow, dark, twisty roads that goes from improved to down into the swamp to the farmland in Chesapeake.  It is also the site of many a crash in the area.  Of course the cities don't want to spend the money to improve it because they still think that the Southeastern Expressway will be built.  That road is already obselete and it hasn't even been built.  Virginia Beach has a plan for a part of its road but needs a cool $44 million.  Don't see that happening anytime soon.  The city is installing some streetlights, extra signs and such so maybe that will cut down on the carnage.  Oh yea, tell the drivers to slow down and drive within the limits of the road.

I know 3 people whos lives ended on the damned road. 2 just last summer. I also hit a deer that totaled my car. Another time I got a flat tire and had to drive on the rim to the nearest driveway because there was nowhere to pull over. Then I had to walk several miles because I didn't have a spare tire. Not is there absolutely no room along the edge for even a tight rope walk, but several motorist actually blasted their horn, yelled at me and just about hit me just for the fun of it. It is a dark cursed road on many levels. I live in Glenwood at the VaBeach end but still take the scenic route just so I can avoid the evil.

In 22 years of driving 400k+ miles, including several years of living in the 3rd world, I'd say it's the most dangerous commute I've ever had.

I drive Elbow daily to avoid the interstate.  I Love driving this road, I admit it is a dangerous stretch, but if you do the speed limit and respect the road, you'll be fine.  It is these people that feel the need to drive 65+MPH that end up in the ditches...or worse.
