Tanglewood opened in the summer of 1949 and was named for the book Tanglewood Tales, by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The developer came from a part of the country with hills, so he curved the streets and landscaped to create interest. Big lots, typically 1/4-acre to 3/4-acre, are in keeping with his plan for an upscale community. Residents often stroll along the trail at the Tanglewood Boulevard median, which is lined with live oaks and crape myrtles.
