Put me in touch with the listing agent....
by Kaushik Sirkar, Chandler REALTOR®
Chandler AZ Real Estate

Here's an interesting scenario.  I get a call asking me about one of my listings.  But - its not my listing!  Its another agent's listing who also works for my firm.  I request the caller send me an email with the MLS# and I'll try to find some information.  So I get the following email...

Please pass along my contactr information to the listing agent on this property.

Cell: ***-***-****

He or she can ask for either ***** or ****.

I won't be working with a buyer's agent, but if you or associates have any listings in the Awhatukee area with 3-4 bed rooms and an asking price under $300K I would likely be interested in seeing the property.

Thanks for your assistance.

***** ******

I went ahead and just forwarded this information to the listing agent.  Would you have done something different?

Thanks for Reading :)

Funny...sounds like the person thinks that they can get a portion of the commission credited back to them in the price negotiations.  Wierd that they called you instead.  I probably would have tried to ask them why they do not want to use a buyer's agent and go from there.

I tell them I only work with people that work with me, and that very few productive agents are going to have time to deal with him without a defined relationship.  I usually don't double dip anyway.

Some people only want to work with listing agents and it is definately a commission thing.

I would of done the same thing.  I just recently got a phone call about someone that could not figure how there agent was.  I spoke with her for a little while.  I later figured it out and just passed along information to him.

I guess I would have done what you did.  At our office all inquiries on a listing do go to the listing agent.

You did the right thing and hopefully the other agents in you office would do the same for you if they got a similar call.

You did the right thing both professionally and ethically. It is infuriating when people use you as an answering service for another agent but remember the reputation of the firm can be a bigger influence on any future business you may OR may not receive. Good Job....

Valerie - I'm sure wanting to not pay that portion of the commission comes into play...

Debbie - I think that there many listing agents that are happy to represent both sides that will entertain such prospective clientele.

Sheri - Thanks!

Missy - Agreed, commission is a driving factor.  Thing is, I'm convinced that a good buyer's agent would have ended up saving them a lot more money...

Jason - I don't understand how sometimes agents advertise relatively poorly that prospective buyers can't get a hold of them....

Cynthia - Thanks for your comment!

John - I just hope my listings are advertised effectively enough so all buyers could contact me directly!

Paul - Thanks for the feedback!

Honesty is the best Policy... You did the right thing. I would do the same.  Chances are  if he gets a hold of the listing agent on his own he will ask if you related the message.  Your associate will be upset if you didn't.  I hope all agents in my office are just as honest.  I too agree that buyers think they have to pay the commission.  I know in my county the seller pays Commission and closing cost. I make sure they know that.

Kaushik,  I do not understand that stupid email, but you did the right thing, I do not understand why people do not want a good agent that represent hims and look for their best interests.

maybe he wants money from that transaction ,

Kaushik-I think you did the right thing!  As a matter of fact I think it is awesome.  I hear realtors bickering back and forth and they could be spending that  time doing things that would generate business.  Think of Floyd Wickman, I repeat this all the time in my head, it is better to loose them today than 6 months down the road! Taking that extra step and e-mailing the agent, it will come back to you!

Marlene - Agreed!  Thanks for your comment!

George - Thanks for sharing!

Midori - I certainly hope you are right! :)

Randy - My thoughts exactly.

Brian - It is unfortunate.  I make sure my contact information is available on all my advertising....too bad all agents don't?
