I am sorry to say the sign finally went up. IGA is closing. And offering 20% off all merchandise left in the store. And that is all the sign says...those two lines.
I guess we all knew it was inevitable with the opening of Big Y just around the corner. But quite frankly the thrill of Big Y wore off very quickly for me. If I had a dollar for every silver coin I have collected I would be rich. I am very sad to see IGA go. It is another sign of the times I guess. Small mom and pops put out of business by the Walmarts and Home Depots.
As I have lived in town most of the last 22 years of my life Central Plaza was the center of town for me. I worked in the pharmacy before it became a Brooks (Which has now turned into Rite Aid I think). I remember when McDonalds opened up. Wow! We couldnt believe we were moving into the 20th century. It is funny how different we see things as adults vs teenagers.
I love the meat department at IGA and the deli is uncomparable to the deli's in the bigger chains. So goodbye to IGA. I wish the owners the best of luck in whatever they do next. And want them to know there is more than one person in town who is going to miss them.
Hey...if you see this...any way I can still score some of the best roast beef in town. Sandwiches will never be the same!
