Well as you may or may not know I released my new rentals by owner site over the weekend. Saturday to be exact. And I did link to it from my profile here on AR and did a free press release in a Raleigh area newspaper's blog forum thing. But that was about it aside from some linking to it from my other sites. Plus my site was already ranking number 10 for some key terms.
Long story shorter, I was expecting maybe a few emails expressing interest etc. However, the last thing I expected was a phone call Sunday from News14 (local news channel) asking for an interview to promote it!!! I was simply dumbfounded. I don't think I've ever had anyone seek me out for an interview for TV. The reporter found my new site by way of one of my first blogs that had a link to the new site.
Then they played the story repeatedly for the next 24 hours. It was perfect. The best part was that they linked to my new site (that needs incoming links badly) from a Page Rank 6 page on their site. Too Cool!!! I don't know where you could even buy a link like that :)
Well in the last two days my site has climbed albeit only two notches from #10 to #8. It's really only a matter of time before I hit #1 for some serious traffic generating terms.
Enough bragging, the point of this post was that I wasn't the only rental marketing professional they tried to interview. I just happen to be the only one that would come talk to her on camera. My advice, If you get a reporter looking to do a story on you, WHY WOULD YOU NOT DO IT? She even said she tried getting some sales agents to talk to her. But none would, man did I catch them slipping. What would your principle think should they find out that you COULD have had their rental property/for sale property in a regional news story on TV...but didn't? I know if you were my listing agent, or property manager I'd pull the Donald Trump on ya..."You're Fired!"
Moral of the story, NEVER TURN DOWN PUBLICITY, good, bad, or ugly. Don't be shy get out there; and get your properties out there with you.
