What's your happy button?

I wrote this post a few months ago...but when I found out about and was invited to join the The Optimist Group on AR, I just knew I had to repost it. And, yes, for those of you reading out there, I do have a thing for George Clooney. Like Carrie said on Sex & the City, 'Clooney. He never goes out of style.' I hope all of you non-optimists get something out of this too! It doesn't tell you how to blog or market directly, but it does offer a way to move headstrong and happy through this world - something vital to everyone in business!!!

Yes, I’m about to get all kinds of philosophical on you right now.

As the economy crashes and wars are waged, it would be so very easy for me to slide into a deep, dark depression. To envision my world, my freelance business and my family crumbling into nothing.

But, I’m not like that. I refuse to be. I don’t think there’s anything more important right now than having a positive attitude. Seriously, how would my misery contribute to the world’s desperate need for support, positivity and goodness? HOW?

So, I’ve made a commitment to stay positive. This is a very difficult task. I realize that I can’t possibly keep any negative thoughts from entering my brain, I mean really. But what I can do, is this: every time I feel negative or sound negative, I can think of something that always, eternally, unequivocally makes me feel good. But what, who?

It’s George Clooney. He’s my happy button.

georgeclooney3.jpg

He’s beautiful, he’s charitable, he’s rich, he’s funny, when he looks at me (albeit from the movie screen) I turn to mush, I hear he’s a good person.

I’ve asked my family and friends to keep me in check (support is good, do not attempt this alone). So if they see me looking gloomy or hear me being negative, they have full permission to ‘George Clooney’ me. Which means they simply say, 'George Clooney' to me.

It’s working. I’m feeling good, things are going well. Didn’t someone famous say, “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” Oh, right, it was Ghandi. That’s what I’m doing…with George Clooney.

How are you surviving? Do you have a happy button (and let’s keep it clean people)? I can’t wait to hear what or who, how and why…

My happy button is music, 70's or 80's (oops, I just dated myself!).  When I play music, it makes any trouble spots seem less daunting to me.

My happy button is photography and digital scrapbooking. Anyone who likes to scrap-book but doesn't have the patience for cutting and pasting, digital scrap-booking is the way to go. I use Creative Memories scrapbooking program, which you can find on www.creativememories.com, but there are many out there. You can finish a book in a day (if you aren't such a perfectionist, that is :-)

Julie: My happy button is my 3 Labs Harley, Dewey and Chuck and cat Otis. The cat thinks he is a dog and runs around the backyard with the real K9s. All are real characters and their antics crack me up. 3 of the 4 are Pasadena Humane Society rescues. They provide so much unconditional love and loyalty. And everytime we are separated, even for a 15 minute trip to the grocery store, they do their happy dance when they see me.

George Clooney, hmmm. Not bad, not bad at all. Do you think he'll do a happy dance when he sees me?

Just as I was about to comment on this I got a phone call from an abrasive, old man, who is the president of an HOA in a subdivision I have a listing in.  He disrupted our office meeting yesterday with his impromptu visit and ridiculous demands and accusations.  He wanted my client's information.  I explained to him that I could take his information and pass it on to my client, but that I was not at liberty to give him what he demanded.

In the course of conversation, I asked certain questions and he gave me some personal information about himself.  To make a long story short: what started as an aggravating phone call ended up as a charming conversation and a pleasant connection.

Everyone has a story within themselves.  If you are able to delve in, you will get to the charm in each person.  Once you do that, you have a lovely existence.   Maybe that's my secret.

Life is good!

BTW, I would never go for Clooney because he is such a playboy and I have a natural predilection for those...  However, I have said it before and I will say it again: If I was to be born again as a man, I would want to BE George Clooney.  He is a good person.  He is smart.  He is charming.  He has a very good relationship with his family.  He relates well to people.  He is witty.  He is funny.  He is ever so handsome.  Stop me please!  I could go on for hours about him...

My Happy Button is coming home to have my twin 6 year old daughters ask this one simple question:

"Did you make your calls today (I need to make 23 contacts per day to say "Yes" to them)?

If I can say "Yes" to them, they put a star on the calendar for that day. When I have 2 weeks in a row of stars, we all go out to a nice restaurant of their choosing! I enjoy making my kids a part of my business. It helps them learn about goals, affirmations, and accountability....things I want them to have as they grow up.

Including them in my goal setting also makes work more fun and it gives me a purpose for why I working hard and making calls every day.

Gary! Good choice.

DALE! That is the cutest, sweetest thing I've ever heard...I can't wait until my kids are old enough to do that. My daughter, just turned 3, likes to sit on my lap when I get home and say, "So! How was your day?' I want to eat her I love her sooo much!

Hey Julie, My happy buttons (I have many) besides my kitty cats (see pic in my blog) is my giant 17.3 hand high Dutch Dressage horse named Jackpot! (see more pics in blog). Although I have to tell you that George Clooney was captured & hijacked on the Ellen Show 1/19/09. Apparently he's Ellen's happy button too since she has been trying to capture George at his studio office for the last year.
