Hello,
I am currently attending real estate classes.
I have become aware that the criminal background check may hinder my chances
of getting my license.
I had a misdemeanor about 5 years ago, that did not involve drugs, alcohol or
violence.
Does anybody know if I am now wasting my time with school and the hope of
becoming a licensed real estate agent because of my record?(Pennsylvania)
Sincerely,
Rich

Hi Rich,
Call your licensing board or maybe the info is on their website. It may be different in each state.

I would call the Real Estate Board/Licensing Commission. They can help you.

Rich,
The state looks at this on a case by case basis. If you go to the real estate commission website, you can download the initial salesperson application. It gives the exact requirements for your situation.
Feel free to contact me for more information

I'd call the license board, too. You may be worrying and stressing needlessly. I think that many times you simply have to be honest about records, and I don't know that misdemeanors count, just felonies, in many instances. It is the hiding of a criminal record that will get you in the trick bag with the license board.

Rich I hope it works out for you. By the way, welcome to the rain and you might want to change this blog to a members only blog.
