The Frustration of Clients...even after saying they understand the market!

Stressed and Frustrated

As we start the new year, and jump into the process, I am surprised to learn that many clients still feel the level of high frustration at the idea that their house isn't selling quickly enough--even in this market.  As their realtor, we are there to listen to their frustration, share valuable information, and many times hold their hands as they state their feelings of anxiety.  This may be an area that is difficult to uphold as the weeks turn into months for many sellers.  But I think I think that the best remedy for us as professionals is to maintain a realistic and positive attitude as we consistently speak to our clients.  Although they may not want to hear that their property has not been shown as often as they would like, they welcome the contact that we can offer, and the ear that is there to listen to their frustration.

Their frustration is real. I recently sent a newsletter to my e mail group. I use a report created by our local MLS with statistics. I did a compilation of active, new and sold listings for 2008. Almost every category showed that for every 2 houses listed, 1 sold. This just confirmed how bad 2008 was for our market. 2009 has to be better!  Bonnie

I would say the frustration is because of this market.  Its the smart agent that keeps their clients updated frequenctly.

I like the idea of sending out the local market reports to your sellers.  I'd do it weekly, not once a year.

Thanks Mike and Veronica!

I agree with you absolutely!  One of the best remedies for client frustration is constant contact, information, and a positive attitude I think!

Have a good night!

You just have to show them what you are doing to sell their property.  Sometimes, right price and location still is not enough.

When I put my last home on the market in California a few years back, it was just after the market had begun to slow. Had we put our home on the market even 6 months earlier, we would have had an offer within days. When we listed, the average days on market had stretched to over 60 days. It's all relative, right? I'm sure I drove my broker nuts with my worry and panic ... we'd already gone into escrow on our home up here, so we HAD to sell! i so very much appreciated that my broker was in very frequent contact with me. The constant reassurance that it only takes ONE buyer helped me have hope.

Happy ending. As it turns out, we only had 5 showings, but the 5th one was the sale and we entered escrow in only 45 days. (Amazing how long that felt at the time!) The young man who bought our home had not looked at any others properties. As soon as he walked in he knew it was exactly right for him.

So, bless you for the hard work you do. I would never sell or buy a home without a broker. When you are good, you earn every penny!
