I know I blogged back in october or so about the need to take care of our pets in the cold climes.  Well, I just happened not far from me.  The families dogs (4) we under feed, not housed and nearly dead.  How can you have a pet and not take care of them.  It is a big resposiblity tham many should not have.

I am sure there are a lot more out there...including larger animals.  Please, be kind!  If you can't take care of them, find someone who can!

Not all animals are able to handle the elements like these guys!

great photos, i am always amazed how similar these wolves look like dogs.... that being said, I agree people all need to take more care of pets, especially this time of year

Look at all the people in the world that have children and don't know how to take care of them. If you can't take care of what depends on you, you shouldn't have it.

Preaching to the choir.  I am part of an animal rescue group called STAR (Save The Animals of Rowan).  We see some of the most horrible things.  There is a special place in hell for people that don't take care of and/or mistreat animals.

I wish more neighbors would do something about animals they know aren't being cared for.....  it's a shame, just a shame.  A woman in Sheyboygan WIs was fined for leaving her dog outside - he was FROZEN to the sidewalk.  Evidently he couldn't get up to walk inside - he was so overweight, even the neighbor tried to help him in - he just bit the neighbor.  The neighbor finally called police!  Poor dog, he is fine now, but can you imagine being frozen to concrete?

Hi William,

We just rescued a little black kitty who is little more than a kitten - likely just a few months old.  She was hiding in our garage, shivering, just about starved (she wouldn't have lasted another day or two).  We have no snow here but we have had frost and a lot of wind so it is plenty cold for a baby animal.

She hardly even looked like a cat - just a very fuzzy bag of bones - and the only sound she could make was a tiny squawk.  She dragged her back legs and we thought there was some injury, but we've had her in the house now for three days and she walks fine and even ran for a few feet today.  She is starting to fill out and is now bathing herself.  She wants to be on our lap constantly - whenever we sit down.

Our challenge will be to get her to use the cat box in the garage or to go outside.  She is terrified to go outside, and when the front door opens, she runs and hides at the other end of the house - poor baby!  We aren't forcing the issue right now, and are letting her have her own cat box in the house. Anyway, she's ours now, and we will see that she has a safe and loving home from now on.

It tears my heart out when I see someone neglecting their pets in the brutal cold elements!
