A meeting to determine if sewer fees may be increased to pay for a $80 million dollar treatment center expansion will be held May 10th at the Syracuse office located at 4252 W 2200 S in Syracuse.  The time is scheduled for six in the evening.
The debate is to consider raising the user fee or impact fee or both.  It would be the first increase since the year 2000.
The district currently serves 180,000 residents and currently assesses new residents units a $1,500 impact fee.  How it is currently set up is new businesses are assessed a fee based on their sewer flow and their equivalency to residential units.
Board memembers have also discuss increasing, by as much as $1.00, the monthly user rate of  $5.80  per residence. The meeting will also discuss the need to provide a long term solution to deal with the continuing growth in the area, and the need to expand.  Also, the need is there to need to have funds set aside in case of an emergency, such as an earthquake that could destroy the sewer lines.
