What a weekend!

We went camping this weekend, not far away, just to Pueblo Reservoir.  What a relaxing weekend!

We ended up with a nice long campsite. The website says most of the campsites are 45 feet, including the one we were in, it was a pull thru, but it was quite a bit longer than the stated 45 feet! We put our 35 foot fifth wheel,  Dodge Ram 3500 quad cab and my Expedition and still had enough room for another vehicle on our camp drive. So it was quite a bit longer than just 45 feet!  We had a nice view of the lake and even though all the sites are listed as "No Shade" we had 3 nice shady trees.  The kids had fun at the playground and riding thier bikes along the road that winds through the campground. There weren't a lot of people around so it was nice and quite.  I caught up on some reading and my husband just relaxed after an exceptionally draining work week.

We did a little fishing in the evening, caught a nice 9 pound wiper, a few small bass and a few perch. We released them all since I didn't feel like cleaning fish. Water level were good, but watch out for barely submerged trees if you take your boat!

I thought it was a little too early yet for the snakes to be out, but I guess not!  The park rangers spotted 2 rattlesnakes and a large bull snake on Saturday. So keep an eye out!   I haven't spotted a rattler in our yard since we had 2 huge bull snakes, a male and female, take up residence in our yard. Some say it's a myth that a rattler won't come where bull snakes are, but we have'nt had any the past 3 years.  The kids know to leave the bulls alone, they also know if they mess with them, the bulls might strike them, and although it won't make them sick, it'll hurt. I'm guessing the bulls know it's safe for them here because they come back every year. Every now and then if the kids don't get the sliding door quite closed, I have to capture one of them and take it back outside, but they've never struck at me or tried to bite me when I catch them. So we live in peace with them.  We taught the kids real early about what to listen for while they were out playing, and during summer months I still go out and do a quick snake check prior to them going outside.

I'm hoping we've seen the last of the cold weather, I've definately got spring fever and am ready for the summer season!

Sounds like heaven.  We never clean fish ourselves...  My husband just guts them and throws the whole thing, head and all, on the grill.  The skin gets so crispy, it slides right off.  Then we just pick at the thing while we enjoy a cold beer.

I haven't been camping in months and now I think its time to schedule!

This was a GLORIOUS weekend in Colorado, I would have to agree!  I spent all day Sunday at the Catamount Reservoir near Pikes peak.

I don't know about the snakes, but otherwise it was a wonderful weekend. I spent my evenings on walks just enjoying watching the sun go down and knowing the next days were going to be even better.

Karen- I'm going to have to try that. I've never had them grilled like that-we've always 'fried' them. I'm ready to go again!

Patricia-I've not been to Catamount, how are the camp spots there?

Jennifer-What a great attitude! It was a beautiful weekend!
