When did you last tell someone they did a good job?

By

We are all good at complaining when things go wrong but when did you last pick up the phone or write a note and tell someone what a good job they did?

I just received a call from a friend who had bumped into my son at a fast food restaurant and wanted to tell me how nice and polite and friendly he was to them.

If you are the parent of a typical17 year old son you will appreciate how much this meant to me. Not only that my son was pleasant and polite but that she cared enough to pick up the phone and tell me.

So, I challenge you, pick up the phone, write that note and make the effort to make someone's day.

I try to do this when I recognize it, especially when I am out to eat or shopping and one of the reps or waiters/waitresses does a great job, I try to let them know...

That's great Reba. I try to but sometimes we get too busy and focus on the wrong things. It is good to remind ourselves what is important

Have you ever notice how hard the people behind the desk at your office work? Every time I pop into the office they are always busy taking care of all of us. I have started making it a point to let them know how much I appreciated the job they do babysitting us.

What a nice post! Just yesterday, I took on a new task and when it was finished I got several emails from coworkers telling me how well I had done. You don't know how good it made me feel! I think we all appreciate a pat on the back for a job well done.

Believe it or not, I wrote the exact same note to a client of mine after seeing their 16-year-old son near my office.  He was very polite and courteous and I was impressed.  I think they were also impressed by the note!

I try to tell people good job as often as I can.  These days I'm telling my best friends 6 year old step daughter good job all the time.  She is a good kid.

Thanks for the reminder, I don't do this often enough.

The last time I did, the ad rep at our local paper called me crying (happy) because I had called her supervisor to let her know how good a job Paige always does for me.  The supervisor called Paige right into her office and told her about my call.

Good reminder to remember to express appreciation - especially when everyone seems somewhat

"disgruntled" these days.  I wrote about this topic (http://tinyurl.com/8e5yco) after receiving a wonderful testimonial a couple of weeks ago from one of my mortgage pi wheel user's.  It really made my day since I hear compliments so often; but this time someone took a moment to write and tell me.  An editor I worked with last month received a written accolade from me, as well, after a formatting job well done.

(Working as an entrepreneur certainly requires endurance and mental stamina; genuine expressions of praise really helps!)

Perfect topic Sue!  Since you asked, today at Wendy's on Spring Creek and Alma....

I really only go thru drive thru most days and today needed to use the "facilities" before placing my order - I decided to stay in and sit like a civilized person should not drip mustard on my jeans ;-) Anyway, everyone greeted me as I came in everything was clean and tidy the food was hot etc.  Well I decided to go tell the manager about it because for some reason I thought that I'd complain if things weren't right but not necessarily say they were great.

When I approached the register the lady behind asked me if I needed something and I said, "yes, the manager please".

She looked alarmed, "is everyything OK?"

"Yes, I said, I just want to compliment him"

She smiled in relief got him and he came out I told him what I wrote up there and said, "I'm sure you get enough people asking for you to complain so I figured I could also pay you a compliment".

I was glad I did and I think they were too. Made for a nice lunch after all. ;-)

This is something that I always try to make part of my day. You can make someone's day totally awesome and turn around an otherwise might be an completely awful day for them. People appreciate someone telling them they did a good job on something, or they have been complimented on something they did.

I know I love hearing such things, why wouldn't you tell someone else and make them feel completely wonderful?

Sue, I sit down every morning and write a note to someone.  I love getting notes and the feeling of being remembered is great.  So work your database and network.  You'll be in business next year and for years to come.
