Unusual homes looking for unique buyers...

By
Real Estate Agent with WJK Realty 0570241

As a Realtor specializing as a Buyers Agent in Austin Texas I see more homes than your average human. Looking for homes fills a need for me. Because I love good architecture and unique homes help fill the void left by production builders. Now I am not saying production builders are bad, but they are like pizza. You can get the national chain to deliver a regular peperoni pizza to your home, OR you can go to a local pizzeria like Mangerie's and have a divine one of a kind pizza pie. I am sure you can guess which category of pizza I prefer.

I have made a point of showcasing the unique homes I run across while looking for the perfect homes for my clients. As you may have guessed special homes require special buyers and therefore may stay on the market longer. It is not uncommon for an architecturally unique home to remain on the market for a year or two. The thing to remember is when they are gone, they are gone and you won't get a chance to live in one unless you build it.

Recently I saw a home in the Eanes School District that definitely falls into the category of unusual home. It is like nothing I have ever seen before. It looks like a big swirly collection of dollops of whipped cream or ice cream. Some people may think its weird, I prefer to think of it as one of a kind. Take a look and you be the judge. Could you live in a home like this?

This home is presently for sale. Brian Fahey is the listing agent and they are asking $599K for this home and the private 2.47 acres with a big hill country view. The unusual structure was built in 1980 and has a stucco exterior finish with many built-in features in the 1101SF. The home is truly a one of a kind: one bedroom, one bath structure nestled in a spacious lovely wooded lot. This unusual home needs an artist or musician to love its unique charm. You can be the owner of this nationally recognized home. If your interested please call me.

Betina - I have seen this place before.  In fact, I'm almost positive that it appeared on some TV show I saw with my wife once.  Cool stuff!

Okay...you are NOT going to believe this but I did a lot of that free form woodwork in the house in 1977-1978. It's slabs of laminated cherry that were bolted into place and then carved and sanded down using power chisels and body sanders/grinders. I was building furniture at the time and was hired because of a sculpture and ceramics back ground before doing wood work! We were supposed to build everything on site to make it look like it grew there. it's an interesting and totally bizarre story with so many twists that I cannot even begin! i will say that the owner was a very cool guy who hired an "interesting architect" architect who had an even more interesting bunch of partners in a small construction co. and my group called "As you Wood" came on as the structure was beginning to be completed!

Jason is correct it's been in a number of films world wide by various documentary film makers!

If those walls could talk!!!!!!

The structure was under construction for several years before it was occupied in 1979  or 1980...

Dear Jason, Thanks for the drop by. I know it has been in some films and books about uncommon architecture.

Dear Russell, I should have known that you of all people would have something to do with this Austin icon. Who knew you were such an artist with wood?!? I even like the name "As you wood" how totally clever and typical of you. We must sit down for a chat about this house sometime! I would love to know all the details!

It would be my plaesure but you will have to sign a non-disclosure agreement because some of the Statutes of limitations have a few more years to go...

Betina,

That is the strangest home I have ever seen in my whole life.  I do not think I could adjust to living in this home.  Thanks for sharing it.

I was going to say that it looked as if it had simply bubble up from the Earth but then I read Russell's comments and now understand that was the intent. Interesting home.

Dear Laura,

I know its pretty unusual to find so much land in the most desirable school district in Austin and so close to the center of town. There are tons of people that will only look at homes in the Eanes ISD because it has such a great reputation.
