Connecting with other real estate professionals on Twitter is fun. We get to know each other a little better and build our network, all in 140 characters or less.
But, to me, the real benefit of using Twitter is connecting with people locally. Making new friends that know the neighborhoods, the customs and traditions. One evening there was a big discussion about the improprieties of eating king cake before King's Day. We take our food very seriously here. It's a local thing. Those are the kind of connections that are most meaningful to me in a city that is still rebuilding after more than 3 years.
So, when I ran across Josh Charles, I promised to help him spread the word about Healing Time. You see, one of my local tweeps tweeted about his song. I cruised over to check it out and retweeted the information to do my part to be sure it got out to as many people as possible. Within minutes, I had a message from Josh thanking me personally for helping support this project.
Josh is not from NOLA, but has a love for the city that only those who have spent some time here can understand. After Katrina, he wrote Healing Time and is distributing it through Amazon for only .99 cents per download.
What's the point, Lisa?
The point is that all of the proceeds from every download of Healing Time will be contributed to Brad Pitt's Make It Right Foundation, which is building eco-friendly, green sustainable homes in the hard hit 9th Ward of New Orleans, (which is also being supported by ActiveRain members here).
Each home is being built at a cost of about $150,000...and we have almost enough ActiveRain members to Make It Right for less than a buck each. Not only that, but you'd be supporting an up and coming musician as well!
If Josh can take the time to write and record a song, set up distribution and donate all of the funds to a deserving project right here in my hometown, then he gets top billing on my playlist.
Download Healing Time here and help make it right.
