I love quilting!

I'm starting a new class for a new embroidery / quilt in the morning...  We are starting The Latte Quilt.  It's for sure not a new quilt and I have wanted to make it, even before I got my machine that embroiders.

I love this part of making a new quilt.  I like choosing the fabrics.. the threads... all of it.  But I am still pretty new to the embroidery part.

When I'm starting to piece a quilt, in my mind I can see exactly how I want it to look.. how it will look with the fabrics... I can see it all!  But since I started the embroidery part... my mind can't quite see how the treads are going to look... exactly where they are going to be...  I'm just not quite there yet.  But, I'm going to keep working on it.

Are there a lot of you out there in The Rain that are into machine embroidery on your quilts?

It is hard, as when we have our faces right into it....we are looking too close. Always remember to step back and look at the big picture.  I love doing quilt tops...I just can't stand the quilting part! But love a hand quilted quilt...

Diana, I have a small embroidery machine but mostly use it to make overpriced labels for the back of my quilts.  When I figure the cost of the machine/thread/etc... divided by finished embroidered pieces I think I am at around $125.00 an item.  I am going to have to step it up and sew hundreds to justify the 'toy'.

Sherry.... The quilting part always really stresses me out.  I'm scared to death I'm going to mess up after all the work to put the darn thing together.  I have a quilting machine too... but even after using it for about 3 years, I still feel really new at it....  I just about have to be re-trained every time.

Cheryl... But look how cool your labels look!!  These toys really are expensive.  BUT... it keeps me out of the pool hall and in my sewing room!

Over 2,000 homes sold…..

Though I could not thread a needle, you may take this to the next level and create gifts for you clients and buyer of your seller's homes.  The thought of someone making something specifically for you is 1000 times greater.

Quilt on......

I don't machine embroider, and since making a crazy quilt vest that took about 10 years to complete, I'm hoping to never hand embroider ever again, either!  I was interested in your comments, however, about seeing the quilt top in your mind's eye before it's even put together.  I can imagine mine, too, but there is usually a point during piecing at which I'm not sure I'm going to like the finished product.  Fortunately, so far I have grown to love each quilt I've made in the hours it takes to complete it.  Happy Sewing!
