I almost forgot how much I love this business!

It's no secret that things have been a bit slow in the real estate market as of late. And while we haven't seen things as bad here as in other parts of the country, we have had our own down time. Couple that with the recent addition to my family (check out what I have to be most thankful for) and you'll understand that I've been out of the "game" lately. Luckily I have a fantastic team. They handle the day to day business - showing property and the like and I'm able to work from home. I maintain our website, blog and handle other aspects of our marketing. I am also able to bring my daughter into the office with me when I go in. I don't however, take Avery out on showings - I don't think it's fair to keep her cooped up in her car seat all day. So, I don't have the opportunity to show property that much any more. It's a sacrifice I'm willing to make, but I do miss it. I miss building a rapport with clients. I miss driving around, seeing my beautiful community. I miss seeing houses. I had almost forgotten just how much!

I went on a showing appointment yesterday. I have to tell you, that although it was strange being away from my daughter all day (I had my husband stay home with her) is was exhilarating going on a showing. Our client is a repeat client. We've sold her a vacation home and sold property for her. She is now moving up here full time and wants a home in the beautiful town of Poulsbo. I had so much fun. It is an amazing thing when you love your job. It makes work, well, not work at all. We toured 5 homes. Found one she likes and we'll go forward from here.

It was great getting back in the saddle again. I had almost forgotten how much I truly love this business!

It's easy to remember why we do this once we are actually doing it.  I love people and I love to work with people.  I showed property today and had a great time... I'm totally exhausted after seeing 7 homes, but I also had a blast and love this job.

Dear Alisha,

Sounds like your timing has been perfect! Have a baby while the market is slow.

You have been far more productive than many agents!

Congrats!

It's hard juggling being a new mom and knowing where to place your PRECIOUS time.  Seems like you are handling it quite well....Things will get easier as she gets older, personally I think you are doing the right thing for her (& yourself) just cherich this time with your daughter, they grow up WAY to fast!  GOOD LUCK!

Alisha, When I was out of work for a little while due to illness I missed my job SO MUCH--and couldn't wait to get back to it!  I know how you feel.

Alisha, I gotta tell you, I love to work, and I truly can't imagine just being a mom.  But, when my babies were small and I left them to go show houses, I would long for them the entire time I was away!  Ironically, now, I feel kind of like that about my dog!  My sons would not like the comparison!  It gets easier, but it's nice to know she was well taken care of by daddy!

Alisha, showing houses can be fun, and make the offer can be even better.... then all that paperwork can be a big letdown!  So try to stay excited through the entire process.

Alisha: it is a great feeling, hearing what has happened in people's lives and they love it that there actually is someone who is interested in their "home" i.e. life.

I really enjoy getting out there meeting people and showing houses. For me that's one of the fun parts of this business, all the interaction.

Congrats on your new baby. I love that photo. Is it the house you sold to your buyer?

Congratulations on the little addition to the family!

I would suggest, though, that if you love your "job," then it is no longer a "job." It is your career, your livelihood, your passion....

Best wishes for health, happiness, peace, and prosperity. Make it a Fine '09!
