SANDPOINT RATED TOP TEN AGAIN!

By

Oh my gosh!  It just doesn't stop.  Sandpoint, Idaho once again finds itself getting the accolades of the national press.  This time, CITY GUIDES.MSN (http://cityguides.msn.com/citylife/cityarticle.aspx?cp-documentid=16209353) has listed Sandpoint as one of the TOP TEN "WINTER WONDERLAND" cities in North America...pretty interesting group, too:

SANDPOINT, IDAHO

ASPEN, COLORADO

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA

QUEBEC CITY

ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA

SARANAC LAKE, NEW YORK

WHITEFISH, MONTANA

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO

PARK CITY, UTAH

VANCOUVER, BC

Sandpoint has been praised in so many periodicals...among them, Outside Magazine, Sunset Magazine, Powder Magazine, Wall Street Journal, Nesw York Times, Ski Magazine, Skiing Magazine...the list goes on...

By the way, when I left the mountain this afternoon (1/10/09) there was another blizzard taking place.  Tomorrow the skiing should be amazing!

I do love it here!

I suspect that all of those cities are a little too cold for me. I love the white stuff on the ground as long as it's a few hundred miles away from me.

Jim, I'm not a real fan of snow in the city, either. It is just a hassle. I love it on the slopes, though. (There are no flies on San Diego...I could see living down there...Go Chargers!).

Thanks for that post, Kent.  I had not seen this latest accolade.  It does seem like Sandpoint gets written up somewhere every few months.   When the national market stabilizes there is going to be alot of pent up demand for vacation buyers in Sandpoint.  I would be willing to bet that our real estate values are lower than any of the other ten cities.  And which of these can stack up against Sandpoint in the summer time with Lake Pend Oreille?

Hi Kent, I loved my visit to Sandpoint several years ago! Truly a beautiful place.  I was there in July, though... I had no idea that there was snow skiing too!  My cousin used to live in Heron, MT- just a hop skip and a jump away, and we so enjoyed spending the day at Lake Pend Oreille. Thanks for your post. Good to see 2 Colorado towns on your list, too :-)

Rick - You are exactly right!  I'm thinking 2009 will be a decent year for us.  ...especially if you look at Schweitzer today.  The sky is so blue, it's purple.  I took a couple runs in the south bowl before work today just to jump start my day.  Unbelievable.

Mary - Thanks for the response.  The skiing here at Schweitzer is as good as it gets.  I'm a transplant from Aspen...I love Aspen...but just too expensive.  I joined a mass exodus from Aspen to Sandpoint about 25 years ago and never looked back.

Kent- you're right Aspen is WAY too expensive-unless you're a billionaire!!  do you think prices are relative to elevation ?? LOL

Kent,

This is great information.  Being in North Idaho myself, I know that it is, WITHOUT A DOUBT, one of the best places to be.  And, having been to 7 out of 10 on this list, I can say that without reservation.

How about some photos????

MaryEllen,  Here is Schweitzer Village taken from the front door of my office yesterday.  I'll get some more pictures going of the town and the lake.  Stay tuned.
