Agents, BE CAREFUL. This could have been any one of us! An update

For those of you who didn't read my blog posted June 27th of last year, let me give you a quick background. Last June a Realtor in Whitney, a small town about 30 minutes outside of Waco Texas, got a call from a man. He said his parents had both passed away and he wanted her to come list their house. When she got there he attacked her ( there were conflicting reports on whether she was raped or not). He tied her up, took her to his house a few miles down the road and called her family with a ransom demand.

Luckily, she had told her family where she was going. They called the police who went to the address she had given. They found her car, but no sign of her. Also, luckyily for for her, the kidnappers roomate came home and found her and freed her and called police. The man was quickly arrested and charged with kidnapping and stealing his roomates truck.

A few days ago, the man pleaded GUILTY and was sentenced to 37 years! The kicker is, his ransom demand was only $3000. Do you suppose there are people who know how much Realtors really make. They all think we're rich.

Yes, I did read your post.  I am so glad she was found alive.  This is a reminder to be careful and cautious when showing a home by yourself.  Especially a vacant one.

That is crazy...and scary.  I am actually getting ready to take an instructor course (rape defense, etc.) with my husband who is a deputy and constantly reminding me of the crazy nutjobs out there.  The first people I will be offering the classes is to Real Estate Agents.  Thanks for the post.

You can NEVER be too careful and should travel in pairs and always let someone know where you are going.  Be safe out there.
