I just had a recent run in with a HUGE celebrity at a local department store and it reminded me....ARE real estate agents like celebrities. This one celebrity said he couldn't take the time to take a picture with me. Apparently he was researching certain items for his next film. I wanted a pic as a memoir and to send to all my friends and brag about how great and friendly he is. Are you trying to guess who he is. Well his initials are DW. If you figure it out, let me know. Back to my point, I thought this person was great until I met them in person. He did not live up to my expectations. He was short (5'8), I thought he was really tall (6'5). He was bo-legged, I always thought he walked very straight. And, last but not least I thought he was always a sweetheart, boy was I wrong. Those imperfections could have been overseen if he went that extra step to take the pic. So all those times that I had seen him in public appearances and pictures, I always had this picture in my mind of him.
I think clients think of us as being professionals and when we fail, their personalities change. Clients believe we are great because of all the listed and sold properties that we have had (Just like I thought how great this celebrity was in his movies). But you might be missing that extra touch when you actually make contact. Look I was not hovering over this celebrity trying to take his picture, I wanted a picture with me and him together. I could have easily taken a pic with my cell phone and e-mailed it just fine but I wanted the extra effort. It makes me think, are you going the extra mile. I know that I am and I hope you are to up your game in 09. My post is not meant to dissect someone and pick out their imperfections but merely to prove a point. People can see past our imperfections and blunders if we go the extra mile. Because in a way all real estate agents are CELEBRITIES too!!!!! People recognize us because they have seen our picture or name and want to work with us because of it.
