Ever think about the people who are in the news? You know, the ones that are struggling to pay their mortgages, the ones being foreclosed or restructuring their mortgages. I have recently spoken at length with a wonderful hardworking woman, here is her story.
"I lived in an apartment for about nine years. I paid my bills and rent every month - life was good. I met wonderful man. I moved into his house, a house he owned for three years. Then he got laid off, his tenant moved out and he was left with paying the mortgage on his own. I also lost my job. When it rains it really pours.
He couldn't pay the mortgage on his own and with no job. He got behind. The property went into collection and he was facing foreclosure. Together we struggled to keep up with the payments just to keep our heads above water. The thought that eventually we would loose the house hung over our heads.
I started working for RE/MAX Executive Realty in May. That was the big turn around. I learned so much about real estate. At first, it was unnerving to even think of asking people for advice about how not to go into Foreclosure and about Short Sales. I told some people at work about our grim situation. I learned about options I didn't know existed. I got some answers. That was it.
I called our mortgage company and spoke with the specialist for an hour regarding a loan modification. It wasn't easy, but we were able to get out of the pre-foreclosure proceeding.
The mortgage company granted us a modification. They lowered our payment by half and even cut our interest rate by almost one point. Now we are both working and we are caught up on our payments.
Those months, we lived our lives with the heartbreaking thought of loosing the house. I opened up to a real estate agent from RE/MAX Executive Realty, gained knowledge and doors of opportunities opened."
