Help with Paint Removal from Bricks

By
Home Inspector with Fairfield County Home Inspection LLC HO1-579

I have a client that for some reason painted their bricks that surroundtheir fireplace. They soon found out that this was a big mistake and would like to remove the paint off the bricks. They have come to me for advice on the removal.I did not have any suggestion on how this could be done easily. I was looking to see if anyone in active rain might have any suggestion since I do not.

Muratic acid, be sure to have them follow all safety guidelines.  Works great.

Thanks I will let them know your suggestion.

The only concern I would have is if they got the acid on their hard wood floor ?

There would be a big concern if they got it anywhere, besides where they're intending it to go.  Follow  directions and application procedures religiously.

Joshua - muriatic acid would be very caustic, leave gases in the house and destroy anything it touches.

I have never seen it applied indoors, but there is a paste that can be applied and then covered with a special paper.  Once dry, it literally lifts off the paint, impregnated in the paper.  I do not remember what it is called, but you might check at the local paint store.

They may have to wait until spring to do this, to be able to leave the windows open.
