EDMONDS IN MAY – BIRD’S THE WORD

No, it is not musical revival of the Sixties or a concert by the Rivingtons or the Trashmen.  It is the third annual Puget Sound Bird Fest beginning the first of May in Edmonds and lasting through the 18th and 19th.  “On Wing,” a juried art show at the Edmonds Conference Center continues throughout the month and culminates with an artists’ reception on Friday evening, the 18th.  Following the reception, Paul Bannick, Seattle nature photographer, will give a presentation he has titled, “Wild Wings, A Photographic Celebration of Northwest Birds.”

This nearly month long festivity celebrates the birds of Edmonds, nature and International Migratory Bird Day.  Guided walks and field trips in local parks, wild life reserves, along the shoreline and at the Edmonds Marsh will highlight the day on Saturday, the 19th.  Also, a birding cruise hosted by members of the Edmonds Yacht Club will “shove off” that morning from the Port of Edmonds.

At the Francis Anderson Center, there will be indoor activities including speakers on a variety of bird-related topics.  Also available for the more active, will be a self-guided tour of local backyard wildlife sanctuaries.

On Saturday, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Edmonds Plaza Room, the Festival Marketplace will feature exhibits, bird and nature related items to purchase and a silent auction for unique and artistically presented bird- houses.  The keynote speaker at the Plaza Room Saturday evening will be Dr. Jeff Price.  His talk is entitled, “A Bird’s-Eye View of Global Warming.”

So, even though it isn’t a Sixties musical revival, if you are in to, “All the little birdies and all the chickadees,” and, “Love to hear the Robins go tweet, tweet, tweet,” migrate to downtown to Edmonds’ third annual Puget Sound Bird Fest.  For more information and a complete schedule of activities, visit the Bird Fest website at www.pugetsoundbirdfest.org.
