My husband and I regularly enjoy Harley rides along that road and I've always wondered who lives in that gorgeous home. We have never seen anyone outside the home when we drive by and there are never any vehicles in the driveway either. I've also always been curious how it looks inside; would be fun to tour!!

I have been driving past there for the last six weeks on my way to Mercy Clinic For cancer radiation. I would love to be able to know the truth and story behind this home. I would also like to be able to privatily take a tour of this home. I am 71years old and there would no way be able to afford this home. But at least I can look.

OMG, can't believe the misinformation! The house was built by James Talbot. He lives there to this day. Local businessman. Not Kenny or the Talbots of the clothing store chain.

Hello Charlie D ... and I sure have been receiving many comments over the years on this post. Rumors are funny how they work and thanks for stopping by.

The rumor about Kenny Rogers started because at about the time the house was being built, Kenny Rogers either bought a horse in the area, or borrowed a horse for a breeding loan, or something like that. Horses not houses.

Local construction workers began telling people they were working on Kenny Rogers' house, and it spread from there.

Michelle who grew up in Otsego
Many years ago Kenny Rogers was on a radio show where he said he would truthfully answer questions about the rumor of him building a house in MN. He was asked: Are you building a home in Dayton, MN? He answered no. The home above is located in Otsego, MN. You have to cross the bridge to be in Dayton. So, who knows what his answer would have been if he was asked about Otsego.

The Talbot house sits on the old home made shooting range we used as kids. kenny's house is about 1 mile to the Northwest of the house shown in the picture. Kenny's house you can see if you type in this address. He has it all fenced off for horses. 16840 70th St. N.E.  Dayton, MN

As a fifth generation Dayton resident, I can confirm A) It has nothing to do with Kenny Rogers.  B) It was built by a man named Talbot, and C) It has nothing to do with the Talbot's Department Store chain.

I am from Dayton and no Kenny Rogers never owned it.  It was built by a local guy who owns the lumber company that is along interstate 94 right at the rogers curve.  The story is that he lived across the river with his wife.  Then they got a divorce and he built this mansion right in viewing distance, across the river, from where his ex wife lives.

Apparently this house was listed for sale a few short weeks ago but is now off the market. Not sure if anyone purchased it or what the deal was but my mother-in-law says she saw a For Sale sign out front but now it's gone. Anyone know any details on that?

Robert,

I have lived in Dayton for 7 years and the rumor here is that this home is owned by a local guy made big from his lumber company.  But it would quite unbelievable if it was Kenny Rogers who owned it.  The rumor here is that the owner of this home divorced from his wife over the planned business venture and he built this home across from their old tiny one just to spite her!

Morning Robert,

Lovely home and great picture of a mature Rogers. Did you take the one of him as well?

Let us know if you confirm the home ownership. As for me, I have no idea who would have owned it over the years.

20 years is not a long time, and if your county records are online, your favorite title person can have the true owners information and chain of title in minutes. Also, those records are public information and can be searched in person at the county recorders office. Of course it may show under a trust that hides the name, but it would be worth a try. Let us know how you make out, it looks like a beautiful home.
