Is your business moving at Six Miles a Minute?

As a retired Medium AttacK Naval Aviator, I was taught to think in the air at 360 knots (six miles per minute). Ingress to a target was based on flying hundreds of miles a very low atltitudes through all types of terrain at a fuel efficient speed of 360 kts.  You were forced to think One Minute ahead of the aircraft to survive.  You analyzed information on the radar ahead of you and always stayed one minute ahead of the aircraft.  Or in my 2009 speak, one minute ahead of the moment.  This gave you time to analyze and then correct your navigation to miss the mountain and get to the target!

Are you "One minute ahead of the moment"?  Do you react daily to your business environment or are you constantly thinking ahead to create and enfluence the environment.  Today's real estate market requires all agents, brokers, appraisers, title companys, mortgage brokers, home inspectors, and closing attorneys to stay one minute ahead of the moment.  Otherwise you can't correct for mistakes before they impact you negatively and you become one of the majority, a reactor to events and then the events control your business and your life.

How about are you one minute ahead of your competition.  Just by being here on AR is one thing, but what else are you doing???

I try Bud but every once in a while it would be nice to go on auto-pilot or at least get to land.

Evening Bud,  I use the phrase " Looking over the horizon. "  but I guess it amounts to the same thing: not getting stuck in the moment and trying to see what's ahead.

Michael,

Exactly!  What are you the real estate professional doing to stay ahead of your competition!  And you are so right.  AR can be a great tool as with other social media if uses properly.  Or it can be a black hole that consumes time.

Good luck in staying ahead of the competition.  Remember Six Miles a Minute!

Bill,

Appreciate your comments.  Reminds me of a training moment in my early days.  Was flying a low level with an instructor and contantly looking at the map and out the "side" of the airplane to find out where I was.  So, I was constantly behind the moment.  Half way throught he flight the instructor ask me for my map and said now "look straight ahead at the horizon" and don't hit anything!  I never had problems navigating again.  I've remembered and used that moment for 35 years in my careers.

Dear Bud,

Appreciate your comments.

Sometimes I think that I am too far in advance. I should be reacting more on the moment.

I dont know anything about being an attack Naval Aviator , But I guess you land and do nothing, attack, do manoevers,  go sideways ?? Bud I prefer a steady flight with a attack plan... so good luck six miles per minute ......... I prefer the 3 mile per minute, the turtle always wins the race.!! A good post it gets me thinking and thats what I like about Active Rain.

All the best in 2009    Carl

Hi Bud - Great post and food for thought.  I try my best to anticipate outcomes and plan ahead as much as possible.  I prefer being proactive rather than reactive.
