New York State utilities have enacted plans to start offering grants to customers who install energy efficient upgrades in their homes and small businesses. The state hopes these new incentives will help meet the 2015 goal of reducing state energy use by 15%.
This new incentive plan will be available through Consolidated Edison, National Grid, Central Hudson and Orange and Rockland. While customers cannot begin applying for grants yet, the utilities are working to make grants available for the summer season.
Among the obvious benefit of promoting earth friendly living these new plans are expected to reduce energy use by 584,718 megawatts. That's enough power to run 73,000 houses for one year. Less pressure on our power grids will hopefully create more efficient service. Additionally, giving customers the option of perform energy upgrades will reduce their monthly utility bills and create clean energy jobs.
Rochester Gas and Electric Corp. and New York State Electric and Gas are next up for approval which is expected later this year.
