Exciting Time to Be in DC

By
Real Estate Agent with Century 21 New Millennium

This is a really exciting weekend in the DC area.  We have had tons of people descend on the area and everyone is in a festive mood.

I just watched the inaugural concert at the Lincoln Memorial from my couch and wished that I had made the trek into the city.

My husband is planning to go to the festivities on Tuesday (we live about 30 minutes outside of DC).  He's been trying to convince me to go with him.  They are calling for a high of 27 degrees on Tuesday.  I don't like the cold and I don't like crowds so I have no plans of going.  He keeps saying "Its history".  Its still history if I watch it from the couch right?

Will I regret not going?

You will regret it.  I went to a protest that was held on the Mall.  Seeing that open space filled with a large number of people was awe inspiring.  I would add that I hate lines, crowds, and the cold.  But if I lived in DC, I wouldn't miss the political spectacle - whether or not it was my party or candidate of choice.

Stacey Ann,

I personally would not participate because I believe the 150 million dollars being spent on this should be used to help homeowners who are being foreclosed due to job losses.

Everyone could watch it on television - and even better yet, add commercials and sell the time and use that money as well.  Did anyone remember that were are in a recession when they elected to spend this kind of money?

Go find Pat Kennedy in on the Mall. She is on trash duty. She may appreciate a friendly face. Me? I am staying on my couch!

You have got to go. Please. This is history in the making and there is nothing like being able to tell the grand-kids you where there when... My grandparents were always starting stories off like that. My watching Martin Luther King on film is nothing compared to someone stating they heard a sermon, shook his hand or marched... Believe me, you will regret this if you do not go. JFK Jr lived a few blocked from where I used to work in Manhattan and he was working with a friend of mine on a charity event. I thought I had plenty of time to take a picture with him but by the weekend he, his wife and sister-in-law died in a plane crash. Please go... :-)

Hi Stacey-Ann,

I'm jealous! You have to go - what an opportunity!

I am so, so excited.  I watch as much as I can on tv and cheer, clap and wave my arms - the neighbors must think I'm nuts before I pull down the shades. I was thinking earlier this evening as I watched one of the specials about all the moaning and groaning form people about what a terrible year 2008 was.  Times were tough for many - and for many of us - but when I look back I think 2008 was AWESOME!!  And the future looks bright.

Have a wonderful time.

We were going to go at first, but then the more we thought about it, the crowds, parking, METRO being overloaded, we decided to stay home and watch it all on TV. The champagne will be ready to be opened at noon.
