Men and staging

By
Home Stager with Stage It Today 40354912

I am not trying to say that guys don't care about staging or home design, but it has amazed me lately how many men are calling to ask me to come and do consultations for their homes to get ready for re-sale.  I've had several call (I think secretly) to see what I can do for them.  Each one has asked, if I will be careful not to offend their wife's decorating in the event that I should come.  I explain that I always take everyone's feelings and opinions into consideration.  I understand that it IS still their home and that if I should ever sell, I would have a stager come and share with me what would be best to put away while I sell the house.

For all those husband's and significant other's, as stagers, I think we try to be very "soft" in our approach when sharing ideas for you and your family.  We are not like the shows on tv, where they rudely tell their homeowners that their stuff and taste stinks.  Really, I think, on the other hand,  we take time to listen and hear you, and approach suggestions from there.

A man is also going to have a hard time inviting a pretty woman into his wife's home.

I agree with Greg! However, Letitia, we men need more people like you who will take time to listen and hear us because we're not very good (well, probably most of us) at home staging.

Agree with BOTH comments above.  I'm good at a lot of things but a decorator, I am not.  We need good stagers!!!

Letitia, I am finding that many Single men are asking me to get a "Home Stager" to give them advise on staging the home. As Keith said Most of us men don't have the "eye" for staging. While many women pretty much think they stage a home themselves. I still suggest to all my clients that they have a home staging evaluation. What some people (Sellers) find attractive for the most part is NOT!

From a guys perspective I'd say we do like aesthetically pleasing surroundings but we don't dwell heavily on it.  I'd also use a different word of any "MEN" that need to secretly call because they cannot confront their wife about her tacky taste...

You can tell if a wife has tacky taste - just look at who she married! Just kidding... I can really see the importance of a soft approach. Some folks do get offended easily.

I am out of my area of expertise when it comes to staging. A fellow agent has allowed his high-school aged daughter to help me and she did wonderfully.

I'm better at making sawdust than cozy houses.

It is always good to get a third parties opinion. It is hard not to offend some people because everyone has their personal tastes.

Any one who works in a service industry knows that you have to tread very carefully to still get the job done and to get more jobs. I'd be very cautious if the wife isn't on board.

OH yeah Kathleen.  Afterall the wife is the decorator and by calling a stager in, the husband has pretty much told her that her decorating stinks.  I don't think I'd even want to go there!  And I agree on all of the above comments!  Especially Gary's!
