Surferdude's report on Washington Beach Culture and the "Mermaid of Merlot"

Mermaid Merlot

If you are one those friendly AR people who have read any my posts, you might have noticed that I primarily write about what it is like to live in Mason County Washington. This is the County and State where I work, play and make my home.

Mason County in the State of Washington is bordered to the Southwest by Grays Harbor County. This past January weekend, my wife and I took my wife's cute little Marble White Miata for a cruise to Westport, a coastal community on the Washington Coast of Grays Harbor County.

Westport is known for its Surfing, Fishing, Cranberry's and home of the infamous Ocean Maiden - the "Mermaid of Merlot" a popular figurine at the WestPort Winery. In the photo the "Mermaid" is enticing me with one her bottles of a delightful and savoring drink known to the locals as "Nectar of the Gods".

Oh by the Way, the Surf was "Narly Dude" 6' to 8' from the northwest, off shore breeze from the East...in January. So it goes with the Beach Culture in Washington State.

It sounds like you had a lot of fun. Was the wine as good as they claim? I just wrote a post on North Head Light house. Did you know that you can stay at the light keepers former residence. I think that would be really cool, especially during the storm season, followed by beach combing. A few years back they were putting beautiful glass floats on the beach for tourists to find.-Dinah Lee

Diana, I had several of the Mermaids Merlot and I might add it was a delightful.

Dinah Lee, The wine produced by this small Surfer Winery is TERRIFIC. I became a member and left with several bottles, looking forward to a return visit. You mention Light House on North Head, the winery also has a Light House attached to the winery...how cool is that.
