It's Snowin' in the Pines in North Carolina - and the Junipers too!

Well, we are having some snow.  By comparison to other places I've lived this is not a major snowfall, but for this area it is, apparently, significant.

While sittiing at my desk I can look out over the deck and watch the birds that are targeting a suet block.  One of the advanages of a home office in the country.

As I looked up to gather my thoughts I caught sight of "my friend" the cardinal.  Being as North Carolina is the "Cardinal State" it only seemed appropriate to capture his bright colors against the green of the juniper and the falling snow.

Isn't he just gorgeous!

Carol, this was my view all day yesterday. It is not one that I would complain about either.

Jim and Maria - There is only one bird.  LOL  You had me looking for a second one!  It's so great to be able to sit inside, nice and warm, and watch them in the snow.

Danny - I'm not complaining, believe me!  LOL  I wouldn't trade this for anything.

Good catch, Carol.  If i were to spot a cardinal in the trees, it would be gone by the time I found my camera.  LOL.  I'm very glad that it was in the 60's when I visited North Carolina just three weeks ago.

We too had snow most of the day yesterday and though it seemed like it was freezing not much stuck. It was very beautiful to see though. We are getting some snow today as well and it is much colder, so it is sticking. Your photo is awesome and really shows just how red that cardinal is.

Cynthia - Thank  you!

Margaret - My camera is like an extension of my body.  LOL  It's always with me nowadays.  My hubby laughs at me because I take it with me even if I'm going to the grocery store.

Chris - I could sit and watch the birds for hours.  There are so many different ones around here, and they all seem to like the idea of regular meals in the Smith backyard.  LOL

Rich - Our snow pretty much melted off the roads, but there is still a layer on the grass and trees.  It seems the colder it gets the redder the cardinals get.  Odd transformation.

Great effect. No always easy to catch the birdie. Maybe the cardinal is an omen for the Super Bowl. Go Cardinals!

great photo!   Snow?  You could have stayed right here in Ohio for that!  Our state bird in Ohio??? the Robin? I don't think I know.

Our state bug is the Lady Bug.

What a beautiful photo of a papa cardinal. That's what you call red! We got a little snow here on the coast too but just a tease.
