Just for the record, and for those who watched on TV and may not be sure, the Oath of Office for the President is specified by Article II Section 1 of the Constitution.
"I do solemnly swear (of affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."
Not to worry. As a part of the precedure, as I understand it, later this afternoon, upon returning to the White House, President Obama will sign a printed document of the Oath of Office as part of the paperwork to put him on the payroll. This is government, after all, and no job is complete until the paperwork is done.
So, despite the unfortunate performance by the Chief Justice, President Obama is properly the President of the United States.
